Description

The Camberwell Beauty, Nymphalis Antiopa, also known as the Mourning Cloak or Grand Surprise. First discovered in Britain on Coldharbour Lane in 1748, very likely a Scandinavian immigrant. Occassional sightings of the Camberwell beauty occur in the region from time to time. Few are genuine migrants as most are believed to be the result of releases by breeders. Habitat Requirements

There is a large mosaic of a Camberwell Beauty on the wall of the Passmore Edwards library, baths and wash house in Burgess Park, a large park that is close to the south London suburb of Camberwell. The Camberwell Beauty was the emblem of the Samuel Jones paper company and was previously on their factory on nearby Southampton Way, but was moved when the factory was demolished in 1982. [34] A photograph of the mosaic was used on the cover of Camberwell indie band The House of Love on their self-titled 1990 album. This is a satellite-dish-free zone of tall houses, standing shoulder to shoulder with big front doors, five floors apiece. Come inside, shut the door and smell the coffee: you could almost be in Kensington. This is where the actors, writers and media types live, where small children wearing smart uniforms and shoes in the shape of lightbulbs get ferried every day to schools that are not local.

They lay clusters of eggs on the twigs of their favoured willow species, usually in March or April. The adults may be seen nectaring on sallow blossoms; e.g. pussy willows. It is thought that butterflies fresh from hibernation do not migrate and hence the assumption is that spring sightings in the British Isles are of individuals which arrived the previous year and successfully hibernated in this country. lads and lasses of the metropolis. My skincare philosophy is that facials should not just be a birthday treat, but an everyday priority. After all, it is your largest organ, there to protect the rest of your internal organs, and communicates for help as skin conditions.I sent a copy of this note to one of my fair pint mates, Steve Corbett, here are his thoughts at the time: “I don’t think you used the word ‘twat’ enough — but other than that it should still prompt a nil response.” The specific epithet antiopa is thought to be derived from Antiope, a common name in Greek mythology.
