Description

The J2 has a special strainer that’s made of stainless steel, which allows for the slow squeezing process of the produce. This helps minimize oxidation, which makes for a more nutrient-dense, better tasting juice. You also don’t have to add different fruit and veg separately. Instead, the hopper allows you to layer your ingredients –with the softest ingredients at the bottom and the hardest at the top to weigh everything down – to create multi-fruit and veg juices with minimum effort. You don't even need to peel them if you don't want to, although depending on the fruit and veg you're using, the results can vary if you leave the skin on. For instance, if you leave the skin on oranges, it dulls the flavor of the juice somewhat, yet if you leave the skin on pears and apples, it makes no noticeable difference to the final results. The Nama J2's height and size make it a conspicuous appliance. It takes up a lot of countertop space, doesn't fit comfortably beneath kitchen cupboards, and can't be stored away without being dismantled, meaning you'll need to reassemble it every time. Starting from the top, it's most notable for being a self-feeding juicer. As a result, ingredients placed in a chamber on the top of the unit are juiced automatically once it is turned on, without the need for any supervision.

The brand claims this preserves more nutrients and makes the juices healthier and more flavoursome. I can’t vouch for the former, but I can vouch for just how tasty and fresh all the juices I make with the Nama J2 are. Furthermore, the most obvious improvement from the Nama J1 compared to the Nama J2 is that the top of the juicer now allows you to add whole fruits which you previously would have had to cut into much smaller pieces. This means less prep time and less time spent monitoring the juicing process (although it’s actually fun to watch and doesn’t take much time to begin with). Obviously, this saves a lot of time as you don’t need to stand next to the Nama J2 feeding ingredients for 5 to 15 minutes. Instead, it does all the work by itself, making for a very smooth process that is undoubtedly a large factor in the Nama J2's popularity. As soon as you close it again, it automatically starts juicing again (unless you manually turn it off first). I find this very handy while juicing as I can easily add a few extra ingredients I may have forgotten, without having to manually turn the juicer off and on each time. The juicer comes with a three-tier system. The first tier consists of its wide, bulky base where its motor and power dial is found. This dial can be set to On, Off, and Reverse.

Juicing Made Easy

At the end of the day, only you can make the decision of which juicer is best for you. Based on the other juicers I’ve used, there aren’t any that I would recommend with the same confidence as Nama juicers, but there are other alternatives based on your needs or in case you decide to save up for a juicer: The Nama J1 Cold Press juicer If you’re planning on making juice every day or even just every week, then investing in a high quality juicer is certainly worth it and a fantastic investment that will help you save money in the long run. But if you’re looking for an occasional on-the go option while you decide or save up, then supporting your local juice shop is a great option. Always make sure the juice is cold-pressed and fresh (and not made from concentrate). Thanks to its tiered design, the Nama J2 juicer uses a mixture of crushing and pressing to extract the juice. Not only does this system mean you get almost every last drop of juice from your fruit and veg, but it means the pulp has been squeezed and is, therefore, drier than in other juicers I’ve tried. This makes it easier to get rid of. I’ve used this juicer more than a dozen times during my testing and have never experienced a bad batch of juice. Not a single bit of pulp has made its way into my drinks; there is minimal foam and having the perfect-sized plastic containers to catch the juice and pulp makes the whole process convenient. However, given that this juicer is also one of the most attractive juicers I’ve tried, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Design-wise, I think the Nama J2 has the perfect combination of modern aesthetics and 70s retro feel and I’m a really big fan, so I don’t mind it standing out. If it’s not to your taste, its size and shape may be a dealbreaker. Performance

That said, the phrase “I’m too poor to buy cheap things” comes to mind here. Because I couldn’t afford an expensive juicer at the time, I ended up buying several cheaper juicers over the years, the sum of which actually amounts to more than a brand-new J2 juicer. I know that that information still doesn’t solve the problem of how to come up with money you just don’t have. The Nama J2 is one of the heaviest, bulkiest, and tallest juicers I’ve reviewed, weighing 12.1 lbs/5.5kg and measuring 9.8 x 9 x 17.7 inches/24.9 x 22.9 x 45.1cm.Yet it's also one of the most attractive, combining a modern-looking base and mechanisms with a retro, 1970s ribber plastic hopper. If, on the other hand, you don’t mind spending a few extra minutes cutting up veggies and adding them to the juicer one at a time, or you’re looking for a slightly more affordable option, or you know that making sorbet is something you’ll want to do frequently (and you don’t have a food processor you could use instead), then the J1 will make juice that’s just as amazing.

Recipes

One of the standout features of the Nama J2 is its ability to get a high yield out of your fruit and veg with minimum effort. Thanks to its large hopper, you don’t have to chop your juice or smoothie ingredients into small pieces, as is the case with the majority of juicers I've tried. Thirdly, the Nama J2's slow speed creates minimal foam and froth which enhances the flavor of the juice and makes it taste clean and fresh. This slower speed does mean that it took almost a minute – 58 seconds – to extract the juice from a single apple, but it did so with very little noise, measuring an average of just 64 dB, which is about the equivalent of a normal conversation. It can make nut milk: granted, you can easily make your own nut milk using a blender and a nut milk bag or cheese cloth, but the process can get a little messy and is not something I’d want to do every week. With this juicer, you just scoop the soaked nuts with into the juicer with your desired amount of water, turn on the juicer, and that’s it. Super easy and convenient. There are many kitchen gadgets I don’t use nearly as often as I’d like to simply because they’re either difficult to set up or complicated to use. So ease of use is one of the most important factors for me when it comes to using a juicer. The Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer takes only about 2 minutes (possibly less) to put together and then all you need to do is add your produce and turn it on. That’s it. If you’ve ever used a centrifugal juicer or a high speed blender, the Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer is much quieter. It still makes sound, but it’s far from being noisy and you could easily hold a conversation and listen to music while using it.

I wouldn’t recommend this as a permanent alternative or a great option for a juice cleanse, but if you can’t afford a juicer quite yet and still want to occasionally enjoy a homemade juice, it is a good alternative that doesn’t require buying a lesser juicer. Buying juice Next we put it to the test with a mixed green juice and some tough ingredients. We juiced ginger, celery, broccoli, parsley, apple and pear. The apple and pear had to be cut up to fit in the feed chute, but the celery stalks could be fed in whole. It didn’t struggle with any of these ingredients, making another clear juice although it did contain a small amount of very fine pulp and there was a small amount of froth on top too. With a yield of 72% it processed these tough ingredients well with minimal waste. It’s simple to assemble without having to refer to the instruction manual and with only two settings to choose from; on or reverse, it’s a simple juicer to use. It comes with three interchangeable strainers, for smoothie, juice, and sorbet - making it more versatile than a standard juicer. There’s also a pulp control lever for additional control over the amount of pulp in smoothies. Starting with the Hurom H400, it is much faster to clean but matches the J2 in juice quality and yields. The Hurom H400 uses more up-to-date technology compared to the Nama J2, and its advantages extend beyond technology to include the actual design. The Hurom H400 is sleek, compact, and overall more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Above the chamber is a tall hopper with a ribbed design where the fruit is held. It’s this hopper that gives the Nama J2 its height, but it’s also what sets the Nama J2 apart from the majority of other juicers I’ve tried.Choosing a juicer (or any kitchen appliance) can be extremely confusing given the many options that exist. I’ve personally been juicing for over 10 years now and have used anything from a blender and strainer to a thrifted centrifugal juicer, to several kinds of slow juicers. After all these years, the juicer I now use and prefer is the Nama J2 Cold Press juicer. The third tier is a large, tall hopper. This is where you layer your fruit and vegetables ahead of juicer or making smoothies. It's this hopper that gives the Nama J2 its height, and its large size is what lets you make large batches of juices containing multiple ingredients. We tried out several juices in the Nama Vitality 5800, first off orange juice. Oranges need to be peeled and broken into smaller segments so they’ll fit into the feed chute. From 1.47lb / 667g oranges we got 0.13 gallon / 499 ml juice which is a good yield of almost 75%, meaning only 25% of the oranges ended up in the waste pulp container. The orange juice was very clear and smooth with absolutely no froth at all, an impressive result. I’ve been using it for about a year now and this review is based on both my personal experience with it and the research I did while deciding which juicer might be the best option for me.If you’re looking for a great juicer, this might be the one for you. I’ve outlined both the pros and the cons below to help you make an informed decision. Nama J2 Cold Press Juicer Review If you’re new to juicing and just starting to do your research, you’ll soon learn that there are two main types of juicers: centrifugal juicers and slow or cold-press juicers. I’ll talk about this some more below, but the term “slow” really only describes a minor difference in speed compared to centrifugal juicers.

When the dial is switched to the On position, a small plastic blade guides pieces of fruit into the chamber. This fruit is then pressed against the strainer by the rotating auger, which drills down into the fruit, extracting the juice and filtering out everything else. This includes pips, pulp, skin, cores and more. Then, the parts warranty only offers a relatively short 2 years of cover on the Nama J2, compared to 5 years for functional parts on the Hurom H400. Considering a majority of defective parts will only start to break after about 2 - 3 years of use, this is particularly concerning for the Nama J2. The Nama J2 uses a mixture of crushing, chopping, and pressing the ingredients to extract the juice. Its auger spins relatively slowly, which is beneficial for a number of reasons. Firstly, it means the juicer takes its time to maximize the amount of juice that is extracted. Nama’s customer service is super efficient and friendly, so that’s another plus (poor customer service is a huge deal breaker for me.) So here’s what I would do if I was in the same situation now: instead of buying a cheaper juicer, I would actually use a blender or food processor to blend the produce and then use a nut milk bag while I save up for a juicer. That process will take you a little longer, but you’ll appreciate it so much more once you do get your juicer and you’ll be saving a lot more in the long run (because of the quality of the juicer, but also because you’ll be able to yield more juice using a higher quality juicer). Next up we juiced carrots which just had to be cut in half lengthways and again the juice was very clear and smooth with no froth. The juice yield was almost 46% which is an average result.
