In the pictures above we have soldered the new wires on and then covered them with heatshrink tubing but you can use any method you wish provided it makes a secure insulated connection.

The voltage regulator/ flasher relay can be located in different places depending on which moped you have. On the Gilera Stalker used for this blog it is located behind the front fairing panel (behind the headlight). On a Piaggio Zip it is located behind the left hand rear panel (on the side of the seat). Getting the right LED relay for your motorcycle in most cases just means pulling out your existing relay and buying an LED specific relay that matches the pin lay-out of your current relay. Super fast postage, swapped my roadaport for full LED so this was a must. Straight swap got me up and running!

This relay and it replaces the standard relay when you upgrade to LED lights. It corrects the indicators flashing too fast without the need to use a load resistors. This relay has been tested on Caterham’s with the Just Add Lightness LED lights. Why do I need this? PLEASE NOTE: We have seen many fake LED relays on the market. They look the same but have different components inside and the casing is made from an inferior plastic. We have even tested some where the positive and negative terminals were incorrectly labelled. Please ensure you have a suitable LED relay fitted to your Caterham when upgrading to any type of LED light. More importantly this conversion also enables you to fit an LED indicator relay as the indicator relay built into the Piaggio voltage regulator will not flash properly with LED indicators fitted. Works flawlessly with all my LED signal light upgrades. Original flasher unit would not cut the mustard and so the LED would not flash or sometimes just stay on. way they work out how fast to allow flashing is by the wattage of the system. When you fit LED indicators you adjust the wattage of the system and therefore need a new relay to suit (Or fit resistors).

We need to extend this wire and fix a spade connector onto the end. Similarly we need to splice into one of the red/white wires and connect in another wire with another spade connector as in the picture below...

These electronic relays will keep your flash rate constant and keep it standard even if the load on the circuit changes. Simple install and does the job great! I had the new style rear led lights already but needed this after going for JAL front indicator LEDs Maybe you only want to change your rear indicators to LEDs and leave the front indicators standard, or you're struggling to find the right LED relay for your bike. If that's the case then you will need to fit resistors in your wiring circuit. The reason for this is that conventional flasher relays work by detecting how much current is being drawn by the indicator bulbs. Because LED bulbs draw far less current than conventional bulbs this confuses the flasher relay which may then flash at the wrong speed or not at all.Just the job. Fixes the epilepsy inducing standard LED timing with a nice calm indicator pattern. I don’t have to feel embarrassed when using the indicator any more. You might have been put off making the change in the past because of all the talk about calculating wattage of bulbs and determining which units to buy, however it's not as difficult as it sounds. Fitting new LED indicators is an easy task for anyone with simple electrical knowledge. By adding resistors to the wiring you increase the wattage draw from the LED indicators to match what was there before, therefore your existing relay will continue to run as normal with a standard flash rate. This applies to EU and other bikes with hazards and 4 pin relays, type Mitsuba FR33-025 (however, if you show me the insides of a 2 pin I can advise as well)
