Description

The story is interesting and it is especially heartrending at places when Belle endures such horrible circumstances.

For example, it felt like 5 minutes after being sold into prostitution, she just goes, "I want to be the best and highest paid girl here! Her annoying naivety and eagerness to divulge her story to anyone she meets seems out of character for someone who has gone through so much at a young age.

Belle begins the novel a a somewhat innocent young girl of fifteen, shielded from the murkiness of the world she lives in by her Mother and her housekeeper Mog. Her father was away at sea and it was only when a neighbour saw Lesley and her brother playing outside without coats on that suspicion was aroused - their mother had been dead for some time.Heartbreaking, enduring and masterfully told, The Promise will take you on a breathtaking journey into the battlefields of the First World War. This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations.

I found that there was a lot of repetition in the book, which made it a lot longer than it needed to be. I didn't continue with the series the first time I read this book but I will now be excitedly picking up The Promise to see what comes next in Belle's story. The author Lesley Pearse does a great job in making us a part of the entire experience — especially the grim, dark and horrifying life young Belle goes through.Não é um tema fácil de ler, e certamente poderá chocar os mais sensíveis, tal como me fez a mim, mas Lesley Pearse tem o dom de construir personagens fortes e sólidas, deixando-nos absortas do destino que Belle irá percorrer. In the course of the book, we move from the filthy brothels of London to the glamour of Paris to New Orleans with Belle.

While this made the book hard to read at times, it gave the story the gravity and openness it needed and was owed. Another thing I found annoying was that every time Lisette is mentioned, Pearse has to work in the fact that the lives of Lisette and her son will be in danger. Despite the fact that Belle is almost 600 pages long it really does engage the reader, I found it difficult to put it down as the story is so quickly paced, full of fabulous characters and I was willing Belle along at a every step. There's a World of books to choose from such as: Children's Books, Range includes Baby Books (0-3), Books for Toddlers (3-5), Early Readers (5-7), Childrens Story books (7-11), Young Teens (11-14), Young Adults (14-16) and Childrens Educational Books.A true storyteller and a master of gripping storylines that keep the reader hooked from beginning to end, Pearse introduces you to characters that it is impossible not to care about or forget. I've read stories before of women going into prostitution and books like Memoirs of a Geisha and Tears of Tess have captured it so much better.
