Books dedicated primarily to the art of papercutting range from how-to texts and collections of easy-to-cut templates, to books on the history of papercutting and its numerous regional variations around the world. Many papercutters are self-taught and started by cutting out simple pre-printed patterns. Books on the subject of papercutting provided inspiration, historical perspective, and samples. Of course, GAP members also have access to an archive of past Guild publications that provide a wealth of information and examples of various types of papercutting from many different countries. Late last year I treated myself to a copy of Paper Cutting by garden – Flowers, Animals and Other Decorating Ideas. I have quite a few paper cutting books but this one looked lovely. Scherenschnitte by Susanne Schläpfer-Geiser, published in 1994 in German and in 1997 in English by Lark Books. Considered a classic, this book provides both a thorough overview of materials and techniques and a history of the art covering the primary countries in which papercutting has become popular. The book contains many examples of wonderful pieces created by the author and some of the most famous papercutters in history. Mihoko “garden” Kurihara is a well-known Japanese papercut artist is the author of many books including adult colouring and paper cutting books. This book presents more than 150 original cutting designs, mainly of flowers and animals, but also includes alphabets and numbers.

This document sets out the data sources used in charts, tables and text in the Autumn Statement 2023 document. This should be read in parallel to the references contained in the Autumn Statement 2023 document. It provides detailed step-by-step techniques on paper cutting from copying the design to framing the completed work, which makes this book a good introduction for beginners. The process is exactly the same as for a regular combi (see above) but in addition to folding the first and last marks, you also cut them.
