Should Fly Away be adapted for screen, Katherine Heigl's character Tully would likely take a more central role, as co-lead Sarah Chalke (Kate) would be missing from the present-day storyline. Then because of her “behavior,” Dorothy is committed to a treatment center where she undergoes shock therapy or Electroconvulsive therapy. I wouldn’t have fully understood each character’s thoughts and feelings about a particular event had it not been written like this, and I think those perspectives were important. What we get instead is an intensely interior look at the friends’ psyches and relationships, and it’s utterly enthralling.

It’s also possible that a lot of the beginning felt repetitive because Kristin Hannah was trying to remind readers of what happened in the last book.I had to keep reminding myself which came first, and the story of TullyandKate came first by these well written, emotionally charged books. All the people in this extended family ended up with wonderful understanding of their relationships.
