A concrete edging stone is a mini kerb. Whereas kerbs are used for roads, edgings are used for driveways, paths and other hard surfaces. Usually, one edge has a rounded "bull nosed" edge which softens the look of the stone and also protects car tyres when used on a driveway. When I asked this question to my Dad, he recommend flint or granite chippings as opposed to limestone which isn't as hardwearing. I ended up choosing a 20mm York gold flint, which is fairly self-compacting. Edging between gravel and lawn keeps the loose materials from spreading about in your property.
