King of Spies, Volume 1
- Brand: Unbranded
Description
I’m the first to admit he is an incredibly dynamic story teller, and he clearly has an audience that loves everything he does. If you love Millar, you’re going to love King of Spies, and if, like me, you find him to be a bit hit or miss, I’d still recommend you check this one out.
King of Spies follows Roland King, the world's best secret agent (think James Bond but cruder) after he is diagnosed with a terminal illness and given six months to live.Roland king, super spy finds out he has a few months to live and he is in his mid 60s and thus he goes on a mission to get rid of the monsters in the world and we see him take down corrupt politicians and bureaucrats are corporates and what not and its epic and I love how action oriented it is and it feels like a movie omg, I love the thrills here and him being chases by British intelligence and his son Atticus on the hunt for him and such a great plot and then seeing his past in flashbacks and then in the present what happens with his son and how he goes out and a long lost daughter also. It might be the fact this is ye olde Mark Millar, and a complete hodge-podge of yawnsome ultraviolence with something that might be pitched as The Dark Kingsman Rises. He claimed a – 'legal license to murder' – and inhabited a world of mass executions and beheadings, as previously unpublished photographs in the book document.
The only criticism's I could really throw at it are the fact that its four issues and out, seemingly. He drank, smoke, and womanized his way through the world, and loved every minute of it, or at least that’s what he’s told himself. Now he knows where all the bodies are buried and has nothing to lose when he turns his guns on everyone who ever made a buck creating the mess we’re in right now. The first issue was released Wednesday and has been a big success, with Millarworld tweeting that a huge number of retailers have sold out of copies on the first day. During the golden age of espionage, one man rose to prominence with his style and cunning, pulling off impossible tasks with nothing but a gun and pack of Cobbs in hand. One of the highlights of the issue is when he gets fed up with a group of loudmouthed Russian businessmen at his club and follows them into the bathroom where he quickly takes them down in a cathartic release of all his frustrations.
