Evocative and lyrically spun... Psyche and Eros is a pure delight' Rebecca Ross, #1 internationally bestselling author of A River Enchanted Also the potion from Hecate that “illegally” turns Psyche immortal? DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER READ AND IMPOSSIBLE, if you’ve actually studied Greek myth you KNOW Zeus must approve of someone becoming immortal and you must receive ambrosia/nectar, you cannot bypass him!! There’s no such thing as a magic potion. But oh yeah let’s just do it for the sake of *plot*. Ugh. Fiercely feminist and deeply romantic, Psyche and Eros has the allure of an old fable and the epic quality of ancient myth, tinged with a provocative, modern wit * Ava Reid, bestselling author of The Wolf and the Woodsman *

First off, I do want to mention that there are quite a few big changes made to Psyche and Eros’ tale both character and plot wise, which you may be disappointed by if you prefer your retellings to stay 100% faithful to the source material. Personally, I actually didn’t mind the changes and really enjoyed the modern take on this classical Greek myth. We knew we needed to move fast to snap up Luna’s brilliant novel and we’re so thrilled that she’s chosen Orion to be her publisher." Fiercely feminist and deeply romantic, Psyche and Eros has the allure of an old fable and the epic quality of ancient myth, tinged with a provocative, modern wit. Passionate and deftly-told.” — AVA REID, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Study in Drowning and The Wolf and the Woodsman The story becomes a name-dropping marathon of Who's Who in Greek mythology. Everyone worth a mention in the heroic cycle appears here. The author decided this story would take place during the Trojan War timeline, because why not, a time where human sacrifice was still practised, but somehow making a feminine girl a tomboy so she's properly feminist is more important than the horrific customs of the time. You get a catwalk throng of heroes and gods sashaying around here, and all changed from how they are in the myths. Why? Because "myths are always evolving and adapting." Yeah? Is Greece your culture and are those myths part of your modern culture? No. The author is American, and as many Anglophone authors recently, seems to think they can take another culture's mythology and do as they please with it in the name of "reclaiming it" or making it feminist. An enthralling tale of adventure, romance, and star-crossed lovers’ Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess

I appreciated how this book portrayed some of the characters from Greek myth. This version of Hekate, Persephone, Medusa, and Demeter were some of my favorite depictions of them that I have ever read. Luna McNamara did a great job as well with shining light on lesser gods that don’t get as much attention in modern Greek myth stories. Zephyrus in particular was really fun to read about in this story. I would love a whole novel focusing on his romance. Orion has signed social worker and Harvard University graduate Luna McNamara’s “fun, feminist and utterly captivating” retelling of “one of the greatest love stories in Greek mythology”, Psyche & Eros . A prophecy claims that Psyche, princess of Mycenae, will conquer a monster feared by the gods. Beloved by her family but at odds with her society’s expectations for women, Psychetrains to become a hero, mastering blade and bow. Fiercely feminist and deeply romantic, Psyche and Eros has the allure...and the epic quality of ancient myth, tinged with...modern wit' Ava Reid

Startlingly lovely. Reading Psyche and Eros feels like starting down a familiar path, only to discover endless new wonders along the way. This is Greek mythology as it's meant to be told—witty, indulgent, deeply felt." — Grace D. Li, New York Times bestselling author of Portrait of a Thief Psyche was never a warrior, so why make her one? She never challenged Achilles in a race, I don't think they even existed at the same time? I just realized while reading this that he's a lot like an Edward Cullen character? He's only dreamy if you're into self-centered creepy jerks. If Eros and Psyche were set in modern times, Eros would TOTALLY be driving a Volvo.)A stunning, exciting and hotly-anticipated feminist retelling of one of the greatest love stories in Greek mythology! A classic love story for the ages that McNamara adapts into an unputdownable book. . . . Readers who have enjoyed Madeline Miller’s and Jennifer Saint’s retelling of Greek myths will enjoy this novel. The text is beautiful and poetic, immersing the reader into the world of ancient Greece, while still reading like a modern novel. A must-read for fans of Greek mythology adaptations, this book is enjoyable, poignant, and beautifully written." — Library Journal A pure delight . . . Romantic, poignant, and spellbinding.”— REBECCA ROSS, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals

McNamara nearly completely rejects Apuleius’ The Golden Ass to cook up a version of the Psyche/Cupid origin story that basically Cuisinarts forty million Greek myths into something that makes no linear sense. Look, I absolutely don’t mind the notion of Psyche being more physically strong or active, but somewhere in the middle of this retelling it feels like I’m watching Xena fall in love with Angelus. It’s as if McNamara decided that Psyche’s overwhelming beauty and suicidal despair were her only personality traits, not her innate kindness, ruinous sense of curiosity and her belief in familial loyalty, so she had to change everything about her until she had a perfect warrior heroine. The thing is that these issues could have easily been changed without transforming the character. If her tendency toward extreme despair and suicidal ideation is a problem, it’s simple enough to work your way around that plot point by using her emotional intelligence and cutting out the Gods making her tasks easier by offering her assistance.

Plot: I really liked following along on Psyche's adventures. From first training with Atalanta, to the shores of the Trojan War, to her daring quest to the underworld. And of course, let's not forget Eros's role as a beguiling God of desire cursed to love a mortal. Their love story was sweet and slow and had a lovely little happily ever after. This is a riotous adventure through the ages of Greek mythology, populated by a cast of vivid, glittering characters. Luna McNamara strikes the perfect note of irreverent humor and furious emotion in this fabulous novel. An absolute joy!" — Jennifer Saint, bestselling author of Ariadne and Elektra I'm one of those people that has to research things when I'm interested in it. So, when starting this book, I went ahead and refreshed my memory of the story between these two. THE OTHER CHANGED ALMOST EVERYTHING.
