I listened to the Audio book, I liked the story, the narrator could have done a better job in differentiating between the characters. The voices were not so much different and it was sometimes hard to know which character you were listening to . The narrator had a pleasant voice but had a hard time separating the different characters. BA Paris covered all her bases shredding any and all concerns regarding the dilemma both Livia and Adam face. This is a breaks your heart kind of story that requires tissues. It’s a sad and happy story where family and friends unite together. The dilemma is a great read about family and friendships. I want to start with highlighting this amazing new-ish author, Julia Roberts, who is not OUR actor Julia, but a really amazing talent in her own right.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Liane Moriarty, Amanda Prowse, Susan Lewis and anyone else looking for a beautiful family drama. The entire novel centers around a twenty-four hour period and a married couple- Livia and Adam. The story revolves around Livia's 40th Birthday bash. Her daughter Marnie won't be attending. I was extremely frustrated at both of them to the point of wanting to scream at them. Livia was unbelievably obsessed with this party and Adam, well, he drove me insane with his actions. I enjoyed the book, but it didn't wow me as much as her other books did. Her other books The Breakdown and Behind Closed Doors wowed me more. The Dilemna, although a fast read, was also repetitive. It was, like her other books that I have read, well written. Even though this not my favorite by B.A. Paris, I will be on the lookout for future books. Where do you start with a book like The ? BA Paris is a wonderful writer, and this books give you all the feels. It is an emotional rollercoaster so have those tissues ready. It is also a tough book to review without giving the plot away. And trust me, you don't want this book to be spoilt before you read it. It was also another book that is hard to put down once you start, the story will have you staying up way too late to find out what happens. The look she gave me, of pure disgust, reminded me of the one Livia used to give me when I eventually turned up after spending days in Bristol with Nelson. Paris constructs an unusual and compelling premise and masterfully maintains suspense about what happened and when it will be revealed. A breathtaking story, nearly impossible to put down.” — Booklist (starred) a family drama that looks at family dynamics, relationships and friendships this book achieves it all.
The author has created a much more emotionally deeper story this time that will tear you up on several occasions. Would I recommend it? YES! If you are looking for a speedy thriller for a weekend read, then this is the one! These friends are put to the ultimate test when a mistake has consequences for the future and can no longer be hidden. How the friends handle it is both heartwarming and breaking. It’s a lovely story with complex characters that mean well but fall short.
Tiff and Charlotte are best friends through their professional connections. Charlotte gives birth to a son with medical issues. His only chance of survival may involve a life-saving transplant. Will Charlotte risk her friendship with Tiff to save her son's life? One thing is for certain in this stellar read by Julia Roberts. Secrets find their way to the surface, especially when critical decisions could save a precious life. This story definitely has moral consequences facing the characters, but also has a very strong emotional edge that begs this story to work out for all involved, especially the innocent child in all of this. While at a botanical gardens planning a way to propose marriage to Beth, Ronny sees Geneva kissing a man named Zip. He comes home upset, but lies to Beth about the reason, causing her to worry that the stress of work has caused a recurrence of Ronny's gambling addiction.
After having writing such an amazing book, the praise is well deserved. I will translate my praise in a number of stars. 5 stars to be precise. 😊 This is such a great book, it’s told from Adam and Livia’s point of view leading up and the night of party. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for accepting my request to audibly read and review The Dilemma.Friends Rob and Jess are also part of one of the dilemmas, Rob did something unthinkable and Jess is recently diagnosed with MS. Nelson is Rob's brother and the best friend of Adam; Nelson is also married to Kirin. When I find out B.A. Paris has a new book coming out, I get giddy. When I actually get the book in my hands and sit down to read it, I'm like a kid on Christmas morning. I just have so much fun reading her books, and this one was no exception. I wouldn't say any of her books are perfect and I realize she is not everyone's cup of tea, but an amazing reading experience always counts for something and that's why I'm placing this in the 5 star category. When you can set aside your everyday life problems and get lost in a book, it's really what reading is all about, or at least that's my opinion. Adam became a wood craftsman and Livia a stay-at-home mother, taking care of Josh, now 22, and Marnie, 19. Everyone Livia loves has been invited to her party—only Marnie can’t come because she’s living in Hong Kong. Livia is not unhappy about that because she recently learned something very troubling about her daughter’s life, a secret she keeps from Adam. Unbeknownst to Livia, Adam arranged for Marnie to be a surprise guest. Husband and wife will pay a terrible price for secrets they seem unable or unwilling to share. But enough foreshadowing. I found it hard to believe a grown ass woman would dream of a 40th birthday party for 20+ years, to make up for the big wedding she never had. The way she obsesses over the party is utterly ridiculous. Grow up already. Snart, Stephen (2021-02-26). "Hear me out: why The Dilemma isn't a bad movie". the Guardian . Retrieved 2021-02-26.
