Description
It may be the case that a vet has directly advised you to use hibiscrub on your dog. If so, they may also have advised you to use an ointment or lotion on the area after, or asked you to apply a dressing to the affected area on your dog. So be sure to follow your vet’s instructions. The patient washes his whole body in the bath or shower on at least 2 occasions, usually the day before and the day of operation as follows: You will be given information and advice on how to care for your surgical wound when you are at home.
There are no specific rules about exactly how to use hibiscrub on dogs. However there are some important points to note: It’s also advisable that you perform a small patch test on your dog first before using hibiscrub on a larger area of your dog. This is to ensure your dog has no adverse reactions to the scrub. Many microorganisms (germs) live in and on our bodies and are also present in our surroundings. Our skin prevents germs from entering our bodies. A surgical wound infection occurs when germs (such as bacteria) enter the cut that the surgeon makes through the skin to perform an operation. Using the chlorhexidine skin cleanser properly will reduce the number of bacteria on your skin which can potentially enter the cut. This may help to reduce the chances of you developing a wound infection. While the dog is wet, use your hands to work the solution into your dog’s skin. Rub gently but thoroughly and allow a foam to build up. Leave the solution on your dog for five minutes. After five minutes, rinse your dog thoroughly with warm clean water. Continue to rinse your dog until all the hibiscrub has been washed off. Spot Clean With Hibiscrub When you come to the hospital for your pre-assessment prior to your surgical procedure, the nurse will give you one bottle of chlorhexidine gluconate skin cleanser (HiBiScrub® Plus or Hydrex). This is an antiseptic which you need to use to prepare your skin before surgery. Preparation of your skin should start two days before the planned date of your surgery. If you are suffering from mild to moderate acne you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist about the best course of treatment for you. Or why not try completing our acne treatment free assessment. HiBiScrub contains an antiseptic agent known as chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine destroys bacterial cells by damaging the protective membrane. By damaging the cell membrane, the contents of the cell spill out, thus killing the cell and ridding it from the skin, preventing the risk of infection.
All medicines carry the risk of side effects, though not everybody gets them. It's important to remain vigilant of potential side effects during your course of HiBiScrub.Hibiscrub can be used on dog’s paws in different ways. One way is to use a plastic container to create a hibiscrub solution. Use 1 part hibiscrub to 4 parts warm water. Mix the solution thoroughly. Next, place your dog’s paw(s) in the solution and let them soak for 5 minutes. Then thoroughly rinse the paw(s) with clean warm water until the solution has been washed off. There’s no benefit in using the cleanser any more than has been advised, as doubling the amount you use won’t increase the effects of the medication.
