Of an intermediate height of 1.8m, what distinguishes ‘Copper Queen’ from the others on this list is the colour of its rays – they are out-and-out orange. The large leaves are well known for being hairy and heart-shaped, whilst the flowers are huge at 25-30cm across. Mr Fothergill’s flower and vegetable seeds are perfect for adding a splash of colour and natural beauty to your garden or outside space.

Once you’ve got your sunflower seeds, you’ll need some basic equipment to plant them. Here’s a handy list. If you’re looking for easy seeds to grow with children, it’s hard to beat growing sunflowers in pots. If you’re not gardening with children, sunflowers are still fantastic plants to grow, and they make wonderful cut sunflowers too. Also if you have a garden and have any room I would definitely put some in the ground as they would look wonderful, especially as a group. For this I would sow the seeds direct as I think they do better than when transplanted from pots.Sow them in groups of two seeds Place the two seeds just a few inches apart, and the next two about 12"/30cm apart and so on. A real plus point is that this giant cultivar is a branching type, so it bears multiple flowers on each stem.

If you love having flowers in your home, the Sunbright Supreme sunflower is a winner. It is revered for its long vase life, so simply cut these flowers, put them in vases, and color-fy your house. If the dwarf sunflower is still young, water the plant near the root zone, so 3-4 inches around the root crown. Once the dwarf sunflower has matured, which usually happens in 85-95 days (unless the sunflower matures early), water deeply. While ‘Russian Giant’ is the least tall of our giant sunflower selections at 2.5-3m tall, it produces truly giant flowers at 30cm across. People often ask “Do sunflowers grow well in pots?”. The answer to this question is yes, sunflowers make great container plants.

If you’re growing dwarf sunflowers, you can also use a plant alongside other bedding plants or evergreen plants to create a lovely mixed display. Sunflowers make a perfect star of the show here. Fun activities to do with your sunflowers There’s no need to prune dwarf sunflowers as it doesn’t have any benefit. However, if you want more flowers and the flowers to last longer during summer, then deadhead the dwarf sunflowers. Also, remove any brown or yellow leaves so the dwarf sunflowers can always look their best. Tips to Grow Dwarf Sunflowers Successfully The Starburst Greenburst sunflower is one of the only dwarf sunflowers with a light lime green center disc. The 4-6 inch semi-double flowers are golden yellow. It’s also a good idea to water your sunflower plants more in the early stages of growth, to help them produce strong stems.Suntastic dwarf sunflowers are easy to grow in pots, window boxes, and planters. This cultivar is an All-America Selections winner and a branching sunflower with up to 20 flowerheads on multiple stems per plant. Planting, growing, and caring for dwarf sunflowers follow the same requirements as their larger counterparts. Technically qualifying as a dwarf variety at 75cm tall, ‘Sunsation Yellow’ boasts the plus point of a relatively long blooming season that goes well into autumn. I love the Elf sunflowers because they are the smallest of the dwarf sunflowers, AND they attract butterflies.

The 5-inch flowerhead has a unique color combination. The dark golden brown/mahogany disc is surrounded by a halo of russet red, while the petal tips are bright yellow. 39. Buttercream Sunflowers You can extend the blooming time of your beautiful sunflowers by planting a few seeds every couple of weeks. This will result in plants that are at their flowering peak for a longer period. Should you deadhead sunflowers? Dwarf sunflowers love the sun, and they need the sun to flourish. These plants need between 6-8 hours of full sunlight a day. Dwarf Sunflower Soil Requirements Born in mid-summer, between July 23 and August 22, Leos have the double-shot of being a fire sign, and also of being ruled by the Sun. What water and Moon-loving Cancers are to sensitivity, Leos are to confidence. With that type of inferno roaring through their charts, how could they be any less? While that fire has been known to burn up anyone in its way, it will also warm and protect anyone a Leo has claimed as their own. If you want to brighten the day of the fiercely loyal lion in your life with flowers for their den, they feel drawn to flowers that are as bold and exuberant as they are.Their larger counterparts come in various colors, from yellow and orange to pink, red, and purple. At the same time, dwarf sunflowers can be found in shades of yellow, orange, cream, pink, and red. Some cultivars even have bi-colored flowers. The buttercream sunflower has a light, buttery yellow flower and a dark brown disc. This dwarf sunflower is an excellent cut flower because it has many side branches. It’s easy to grow and matures early. 40. Tiger Eye Hybrid Sunflowers

Water the soil, ensuring it stays moist until planting and throughout the germination process (which takes about 7-14 days). Perfectly proportioned ‘mini’ sunflowers that are just as beautiful as their bigger relative sunflowers. Suitable for indoor growing and garden growing. As a general rule, sunflowers don’t produce more flowers as a result of deadheading. Having said that, it’s fine to remove the dead flowers if you’d like to tidy up the plant.

Tips to Grow Dwarf Sunflowers Successfully

The rays are a light bright yellow and, at another point of departure, the light brown discs are quite small and not as prominent as in most other varieties’ flowers. Ourteam of horticulturists planned our garden centreto show plants in their natural habitat, with inspirational displays.Looking forplants is like taking awalkin a botanical sanctuary. A sunflower is an annual plant. This means the plant grows, flowers, and dies in one growing season. The best soil for dwarf sunflowers is natural soil or a potting mix that’s nutrient-rich and well-draining. When planting your dwarf sunflowers in pots and containers, ensure these are well-draining with ample drainage holes at the bottom, so the roots don’t become waterlogged and start to rot. A relatively new cultivar appearing around 2018, ‘Sunbelievable Brown Eyed Girl’ took the bronze medal at that year’s Chelsea Flower Show and it is easy to see why. 1 Rice, G. (2018b, September 28).
