Description

We can’t talk about Peak District without mentioning the Stanage Area and more specifically, Stanage Plantation. With a host of classics, Stanage Plantation’s gritstone boulders are the most famous of the lot in the UK. Carabiners are designed to be stronger when loaded lengthways than they are when loaded across. Loading across will result in reduced strength. Having a disability does not have to be life limiting, whatever is thrown at you, you can live life to the full. But changing this perception will be a bigger battle than climbing Everest.” Anyone looking for a fast, dynamic, incrediblyaccessibleclimbing activity.Noprevious experience is needed for this course. We aim on this course to make you into a fully independent boulderer, able to go anywhere in the world toenjoy this amazing sport. Kit needed: You’ll be in the very safe hands of one of our experienced and Mountain Training qualified instructor team and enjoy two full days of climbing. Our team are locals who know all the best venues and all the best climbs to aid your development. They can tailor the climbs to suit different ability and experience levels. You’ll be challenged, but at the right level for you.

Over the last year we have had to intervene in a few situations where we've noticed carabiners not done up properly, or carabiners being crossloaded when lowering climbers. We provide all the technical equipment although you are welcome to bring your own if you have them. All you need is suitable clothing and lunch. Long trousers that you can move in freely and warm upper layers are ideal. The Limestone at the Peak has been put on the map by UK bouldering pioneers - Moffatt, Allen, and Proctor - who started by putting up first ascents at Stoney Middleton. The best the lakes has to offer for mere mortals (because it's not always as wet as kez thinks) 29 climbsThe Popular End is true to its name, and with good reason. No other crag in England can boast such a concentration of climbing; a kilometre of continuous routes at all grades on some of the finest gritstone on the planet.

Our Christmas Elf has been demonstrating some of the bad behaviours we've seen in the centre over the past year and highlighting the risks of these behaviours.

Higgar Tor, Burbage West, Burbage North, Burbage South Edge, Burbage South Valley, Owler Tor and Mother Cap, Secret Garden, Millstone, Carl Wark, Houndkirk Tor, Ox Stones Another visitor to our shores this winter was Adam Ondra, who managed to sync his visit with what seemed like the only week of sustained good weather of winter 2023. Thankfully it wasn't all YouTube content generation, and some climbing occurred. Although sadly missing out on the flash of the classic The Traverse (7a+) by virtue of not matching the arête at the end (sorry, but rules is rules) no such fate awaited him on The Ace and the problem saw its first flash, cheered on by Jerry, no less. The amazing part of this however isn't really that he flashed it; it is relatively basic afterall and he's the greatest climber to ever walk the earth. It's more that with the wealth of homegrown talent and strength in our ranks these days nobody else had beaten him to it in the 20-odd years since the problem was put up. What have all the strong kids being playing at? We clearly need a few more to quit the competition scene! The Northern End is more broken with a few bigger buttresses; Crow Chin, Marble Wall and the Stanage End would be the popular 'best bits' on many lesser crags. Once your child has completed NICAS 1&2, they might find it more suitable to climb with others at the same level as the skills on the scheme become more involved.

Another location within Burbage with lower grades is Haggar Tor. For bouldering newbies, it's a great place to practice landings more than solving problems. It offers low-level difficulty with lower probability of problematic landings. Just make sure your pads are in place and you bring a spotter along! You will get more out of your time with us if you work in a group where the numbers suit the activity. We favour small instructor to client ratios so that you benefit from quality time and instruction, where you have time to ask all the questions you want, the routes chosen can be tailored to suit you, and we can take plenty of time to show you specific techniques and skills. We are based in Upper Hulme inthe beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands area of the westside of the Peak District. The medieval market town of Leek isno further than a 5min drive down the road and has plenty of super markets, pubs and shops to explore. 20 mins in the other direction and you arrive in the historicaltown of Buxton again full of shops, museums, cinema and atheatre. Wow - we are super excited and honored to be hosting two truly inspirational characters for our first Winter Lecture of the season - Hari Budha Magar and Krish Thapa as they share their incredible story on how they plan to conquer Everest next year.

I believe that the original name for the region is the Peak (or previously Peake) and 'District' is a more recent addition. 'The Peak' is therefore not an abbreviation or slang. The name Stanage is a contraction of Stane (or Stone) Edge. Despite being set in a landscape of similar features, as long ago as folk began naming things, Stanage was simply itself: The Stone Edge. Neolithic remains below the edge tell a tale of constant human activity over the last 5,000 years, with the ancients no doubt using the caves along the edge and becoming comfortable with vertical movement along the way. An added bonus with many outdoor bouldering settings are the views on offer whilst you climb. The Roaches presents awesome views to enjoy and soak in.
