The industry is such a proud one; it has gone through some ups and downs over the years but seems to be in a very strong place now. There are also several limited edition lines which will be hand-numbered, produced in smaller runs ranging from 150 up to 1,000 and be “a little bit more special”, Mr Grant said. The exact manufacturing location is kept under wraps, but workers there, some of whom started in the pottery-making industry as teenagers and are now in their 60s, spoke of their delight at being involved in marking such a historic event.

Proudly crafted in England by our skilled craftspeople

Working with the great suppliers we work with, they do take an enormous pride in what they do – working on something like this, a product for such a momentous occasion.

What would make the difference is any item designed by a known artist who is sought after in their own right, such as Eric Ravilious has become since his death and whose work for the 1953 coronation does sell well.” Dessert plate and pillbox from the Royal Collection Trust (Courtesy: Royal Collection Trust Press Office) Chris Yeo, of Clevedon Salerooms, who has appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow, said: “From the coronation of Queen Victoria onwards, the British have been churning out masses and masses of royal memorabilia and the vast majority is worth nothing. The Royal Collection Trust has unveiled its range of official chinaware marking the coronation of King Charles III. Our rest of world delivery region includes the continents of Asia, South America, Australia/Oceania & AfricaFor delivery purposes, the European Union region includes the following 27 EU member states and Monaco: Royal memorabilia is in decline because the younger generation are not interested in having it around them. The exception is where an artist who is going great guns in his own right is commissioned to produce a piece. Then it’s likely to increase in value.” Once fettled, the china is fired in a biscuit kiln at 1,238C for 11 hours, baking the pottery to such an extent that, when emptied at 4am, it will have shrunk by 15% – a percentage of shrinkage indicating a fine quality bone china.

Further commemorative items and limited edition pieces will be released in the coming months. All profits from sales of the official chinaware range and commemorative items go to the Royal Collection Trust, for the care and conservation of the collection, and access to the collection through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational programmes.

All Prince Harry's seven Coronation 'demands' – from Archie's birthday to balcony moment

James Grinter, a memorabilia expert from Reeman Dansie Auctioneers and Valuers in Colchester, who appears on BBC’s Flog It, told The Telegraph: “Most of the memorabilia available will be mass produced and is therefore not likely to retain much value. Even the official commemorative items are not going to appreciate much in value because so many of them will be on the market. If you're after a coronation-based theme for a loved one, this ceramic mug can be personalised with the name of the recipient, which will be displayed around the rim of the mug. The mug also features classic London iconography, King Charles's cypher and the words 'To Commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III'. This teacup with saucer will take pride of place in your home, reminding you of the coronation of the new British King. This piece of memorabilia comes complete with a gift box for you to keep it in or for gifting to a friend. The RCT works with the same dozen factories in the Staffordshire area to produce their commemorative chinaware, meaning that every single piece will have gone through 50 separate “highly-skilled hands”.

All the profits from the sale of this official range of commemorative items goes to the Royal Collection Trust. The Trust is a registered charity, set up to oversee the conservation of the Royal Collection and make it accessible through exhibitions and educational projects. It receives no public funding.King Charles III's coronation is fast approaching, as the UK gets ready to crown the first new monarch in 70 years on Saturday 6 May 2023. What better way to mark this historic occasion than with a limited-edition piece of royal memorabilia you can treasure for years to come? The official range of chinaware to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III has been made in Stoke-on-Trent. The Royal Collection Trust range goes on sale today (Friday, April 14) and includes a coffee mug, pillbox, tankard, dessert plate and cup and saucer. Though rooted in traditional methods, the design and production of commemorative china is constantly evolving with efficiency and sustainability in mind. For example, innovative adaptations have been made to the design of cup handles to require fewer kiln firings, thereby reducing the amount of energy consumed. On the factory floor in Stoke, high quality white clay supplied from Devon and Cornwall is machine-mixed with water and other ingredients to form liquid clay, known as slip, which is sieved for impurities and then piped and hand-poured into moulds by staff using pressurised hoses.
