The songs after that were very easy to understand and play, but they involved 2 or 3 keys being pressed simultaneously by both hands at the same time. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. However, they are OK because each song has something in it - a new challenge - that made me forget the cheesiness and focus on trying to play it properly.

I'm currently approaching the end of the first Alfred's adult book and I can recommend it as a great method for adults. It’s the book I used exclusively when I first started teaching piano, so I have a soft spot in my heart for it. It is a greatly expanded version of Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course that will include lesson, theory, and technique in a convenient, all-in-one" format.I haven’t used it for as long, but I think it has a slight edge in that it’s more balanced in its pop/Classical approach, and it’s less hokey. A piece from the RCM Preparatory book might take two to three times as long to learn as a piece from the Alfred’s Adult book.

One other note: My teacher has been using Faber for quite some time, but does not recommend the "Adult All-in-One" series. Of course practice more than 20 minutes when you're enjoying it, but get your 20 minutes in every day no matter what. The good thing is that Moonlight Sonata is played on a loop in my GP surgery (very badly) on a sort of 'doctors hits album to drown out patient's screams' sort of an album, along with that tune that used to be on a well known cigar advert in the 1970s. However, there tends to be a difficult hitch at the end of the “G position” chapter with the pieces “Beautiful Brown Eyes” and “Alpine Melody”. Not because the material is easier (it isn’t), but because most students who haven’t given up are used to the constant new challenges, and the material is starting to sound like real piano music.I think the other nice thing is that there is a lot of online resources due to so many people using this particular method.

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Numbered fingering is provided throughout, chords are quickly introduced, and theory is explained as required and in a digestible way. At the completion of this course, the student will have learned to play some of the most popular music ever written and will have gained a good understanding of basic musical concepts and styles. The downside of a chord-based approach is that your left hand won’t be as equipped to deal with Classical music if you’re headed that route. As you’ll see in the video at the end, I show you just how far you will advance in this book if you follow it by starting at the beginning and taking each page/concept one at a time.

If you’re only used to playing chords with your left hand, it’ll be a rude awakening when you attempt your first Baroque or Classical dance piece, where the left hand makes big leaps and follows its own path (instead of being led along by the right-hand melody). If you aren’t familiar with any of these, take a few moments to go over everything because you’ll probably find some questions that you have answered.

Also, many of the early pieces are very familiar so while you are learning the new concept introduced on each page, you’re also learning a tune that you probably learned in childhood which makes it really fun while you learn. The preparatory level in music is generally a 1 to 2-year process for adult students (longer for children). Before starting this book, I'd played guitar using tab, but could not play piano or read sheet music.
