Importantly it also feels very robust and reassuringly solid in-hand thanks to its magnesium-alloy body. With dimensions of 118 x 69 x 38 mm (4.65 x 2.72 x 1.5″), it's slightly smaller in size than the PEN-F camera, and weighs a little less too at 337 g (0.74 lb / 11.89 oz) body-only. The problem is, and always has been, that Olympus seems reluctant to make more of the touch screen to access and change camera settings, confining it more or less to focus, touch shooting and a few other limited roles. This is frustrating on other PEN models, but the E-PL7’s forward facing screen provides an opportunity to really make the most of the touch screen, unfortunately it’s an opportunity Olympus has failed to make the most of. While both Olympus and Panasonic share the same lens mount, they take different approaches to stabilisation. Panasonic requires lenses with built-in optical stabilisation, while Olympus builds stabilisation into the actual camera bodies. The benefit of the Olympus approach is enjoying stabilization with any lens you attach, whereas on a Panasonic body you’ll only have stabilization on lenses which support it. Panasonic does, however, equip most of its zooms with optical stabilization, including of course the common kit options. Like Panasonic, Samsung’s NX series offers stabilised lenses rather than building stabilisaton into its bodies.

In 4K mode you can adjust the frame rate, but not the bit rate, in Full HD you can adjust both with options of Super Fine, Fine, and Normal, however the camera does not tell you what the bit rate is. It would be nice if these different colour treatments could be more unified so that they can be accessed, activated and adjusted in the same way. Also, do they really need three different names? The Art Filters and Color/Monochrome profiles are effectively Picture Control modes with a few additional options such as the ability to add a frame or vignetting – depending upon which one you have selected. Lots of grips for m4/3 cameras. The VF-2/VF-4 are as good as anything NEX has. IQ is better but only about ISO 3200 and I don't shoot there. With IBIS you don't have to. Thank you John and Siegfried. I am not interested in photography, only filming with the camera, so it is great to know I can still create the color and b/w profiles and use them for video! I will be posting some work here in the future. There is the option to use all varieties of SD media card, up to and including SDXC cards, via the single card slot that's located within the battery compartment on the bottom of the camera. Low light sensitivity stretches from ISO 200 all the way up to a pro-like ISO 25600, partly down to the implementation of the 20.3 megapixel sensor and latest noise reducing TruePic VIII processor, with an extended LOW setting equivalent to ISO 100 also available. OMDS added the Pen F Colorand MonochromeProfilesfunction to the new E-P7. We also see features like the Color Creator, Highlights & Shadows (Curves), ART filters, and many others in the E-P7. The Pen E-P7 makes one wonder, did OMDS target the E-P series for its simplicity and elegance?

There are no less than 31 different Art Filters in total. The Art Filter digital effects are applied at the time of capture which means write speeds are inevitably a couple of seconds longer than for regular images. When shooting using certain filters, such as Diorama or Dramatic Tone, the screen's refresh rate slows, providing a real time preview of how the eventual image may look. There was a more recent PEN-F camera launched in 2016 which is also clearly a direct inspiration for this new camera. In my opinion, the E-P7's biggest asset is its weight at 337g. This asset turns out to be some the camera's build failures that I personally noted but didn't bother me that much: creaking in the body if you squeeze it too much and a low quality d-pad that made a hollow noise every time you push it. I don't think you'll find those on the Pen F. However, the video from the Pen f doesn't really hold a candle next to the E-P7. A mix of these 2 cameras is required: decent video, light, and excellent build. I didn't know if I should say anything about the EVF and the E-P7. The fact is, I hardly use the EVF on my Pen-F. The main reason is mirrorless cameras are different from DSLRs, and modern camera displays used on mirrorless cameras are excellent. For better IQ in the same price-range or even better price , go for APS-C sensor, and here is a list of most of people are buying: This article is about released in 2021. For released in 2014, see Olympus PEN E-PL7. Olympus PEN E-P7 Image stabilisation works well with with 14-42mm lens @29mm, 1/20s, f/5.6, ISO800, Handheld, Billigoat Designs

Olympus is generally regarded to have the best stabilisation system around and while the E-P7 doesn’t have quite as an impressive system as the company’s top-end cameras, it’s still claimed to offer a shutter speed compensation factor of 4.5EV for stills photography. This stabilisation system can also be used when shooting video to help iron out the shake and wobble of hand-held recording. The Olympus E-P7 certainly delivers in terms of focusing speed and perhaps more importantly accuracy too, with very few false positives.I tested the PEN E-PL7’s stabilisation by zooming the kit lens to its maximum 84mm equivalent focal length and taking a series of shots in shutter priority mode first with the stabilisation turned off and then with it enabled. I found I could just about get a sharp shot at 1/4 using the stabilisation. The crop is a tiny bit softer than the one taken at 1/8 but I think it’s just about acceptable. This is a slightly better performance than the lumix GF7 and Samsung NX3000 at a slightly longer focal length. But I think the E- PL7’s advantage here is as likely to be due to its chunkier and heavier body as the stabilisation per se. Either way, it’s a great performance from the E-PL7.
