It opens up an emotional pathway for her that not only links her to the past but allows for her to lay roots and become the person she will need to be in the future. In essence, the book spends a majority of its time setting the stage for the next two books with interjections of action and drama concerning the main conflict. The three children fled to safety and stayed true to their heritage and their mother by continuing to old ways and passing their knowledge and powers to each surviving generation. Ultimately, this was not my favourite Nora book (by far) but it was still a solid start to another magical trilogy.Let's face it, Roberts is a master at telling a good romantic tale but what she is even better at, is taking that romance and putting a very real feeling, very dark supernatural spin on it and meshing it together until they are some of the most standout paranormal romances out there. Iona must scramble to catch up with her cousins, who have known of their power and how to handle it all their lives. If I’ve learned anything in my years reading Nora, it’s that I tend to enjoy her fantasy/PNR themed stories more than their contemporary counterparts, and my experience was no different here. I love relationship-driven novels, but this one could have moved more, and/or included some more adventure. I have read some reviews that complain that this is simply a mashup of several of her previous series. She is so energetic and enthusiastic, her unusual straightforwardness made me beam from ears to ears. In the movie, Dark Witch and some other villains from the Pretty Cure movies were revived by Black Hole.Frustratingly, Meara is okay with just the heat, afraid to lose herself—and their friendship—to something more.

Connor, who is lighthearted and generous, and Fin, who's dark with emerald eyes focused only on Branna, the most skilled of the witches who makes the paranormal aspect of the story exciting. Each of her children has the gift of magick as well, and a special animal guide in their dog, hawk, and horse respectively. This series follows Irish-American Iona Sheehan back to her Irish roots, where she discovers the magic she embodies, her two cousins, and their circle of friends.Though not on the par with some of Robert’s earlier PNR trilogies; The Circle and the Sign of Seven, it’s still an interesting start and fans of lightweight PNR are sure to enjoy this.

The first book of the cousins O'Dwyer series, Dark Witch, reminded me a lot of two other "firsts" of her trilogies- the Gallaghers of Ardmore, and the Three Sisters Island. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside.In the first, Macy Sorensen meets and falls in love with the boy next door, Elliot Petropoulos, in the closet of her dad’s vacation home, where they hide out to discuss their favorite books. Diary entries fancifully addressed to TV host Ellen DeGeneres serve as flashbacks to Lily’s teenage years, when she met her first love, Atlas Corrigan, a homeless boy she found squatting in a neighbor’s house. Paranormal romances are generally my least favourite subgenre, but this book had three things I’ve always loved: Nora Roberts, Ireland, and a strong cast. Roberts has released the first book, Dark Witch, in a new series, The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy, and I feel like someone just gave me a bar of fabulous and sinfully rich French dark chocolate.
