You’ll notice that as you’re cleaning the teak the original colour will be restored as the cleaner removes the grey, weathered look from the wood. To do this you will need a stronger caustic cleaner which will remove the weathered patina. However, please be sure to read the instructions with this type of cleaner to ensure you remain safe and test first. You may also have to lightly sand the piece to fully restore it.

If you want to restore old, grey and weathered teak furniture you should use our Teak Care Kit. This includes our Teak Cleaner, Teak Brightener, Teak Oil and all accessories needed to give you the best results. Preparation Soapy Water - Theeasiest and cheapest way to clean your wooden garden furniture is by using good old soapy water using a mild detergent, dish soap or washing up liquid and then use a brush or sponge to scrub it down, then simply rinse with the garden hose and leave to dry in direct sunlight if possible.Often this does not become apparent until the wood has dried out and taken on the texture of shark skin. You can leave the solution on the furniture for a few minutes to soak into more stubborn dirt patches before shifting them with the scrubbing brush.

Most people think it’s the way forward, and although it might seem satisfying as you watch it change colour we’ve seen lovely furniture destroyed by the powerful jets stripping away timber along with the dirt. Instead, I recommend cleaning it all over with a wood cleaner, giving it light sand, and then applying a saturating wood oil. This will keep your wooden seats and tables strong and looking their best for decades.’It is also important to get into all crevices and grooves, so use an old toothbrush or other small soft bristle brush to prevent grime from building up as this can split the rattan weave. Although it may seem like an easy solution to banish all the dirt in one fell swoop, excessive force can harm the wood. It can cause cosmetic damage to the surface, affect the joints, and strip away the natural oils that preserve the timber.
