Description

If you are likely to forget to immediately score some of the routes you claim, we recommend designating a player as the scorekeeper; have him move all the Score Markers throughout the entire game, or at least prompt the other players to do so when they forget.

The non-USA maps (and any expansions you’re using) remain available; if they include a route that goes through or into one of the new states, then it’s still there! This means that you can now take your train all over North America and beyond! It's really easy to understand, it's super fast-paced because you can only do one thing on your turn (draw new cards or claim a route), and it still gives the brain a nice workout if you like to play tactically. When claiming a Route, you may play 1 less card than required. You must still play at least 1 Card, and you cannot ignore a Locomotive on a Ferry route. This particular version focuses more heavily on trading goods over passengers making the map less like a map and more like an actual area with cities where you’re trying to build up your own empire! ComponentsRight of Way – Cost 4: You can claim an already-claimed route. You must immediately claim the route when you take this card, and after you have claimed it you return the card to the table. In other words, you need to pay each time you use this card. You just put your trains next to those of the other player. The route scoring table is on the game board. There are also some cards in the game that show you how many points you score for each route length. These should be recorded by moving your scoring marker each time you claim a route. Draw Destination Cards Locomotive cards (i.e. wilds) are especially important in this game. Any 4 cards can be played as a locomotive. When 3 or more locomotives appear in the available face-up cards, they are not discarded. It’s a different point boost that doesn’t destroy the simplicity of the original game but still adds a bit more complexity. United Kingdom

Superheated Steam Boiler – Cost 2: You can claim 4, 5, and 6 space routes. (You still need the mechanical stoker to claim 3 space routes.)Volume 5 comes with a big double-sided map with the UK and Pennsylvania on either side. Each side comes with its own set of special rules that can be added too, so you aren’t just getting a different board. Pennsylvania You just need to be aware that if cities are connected by a double route, you cannot claim both routes! If you are playing with only two or three players, the double routes don’t count. Once one of the routes of any colour has been claimed then the other route cannot be used. Some routes between two cities benefit from two train lines, however, these only come into play when there are three to five players. When there are just two players these double routes are not in play, and you will need to find another way around. This restriction of route length in the early game adds a new level of play and forces players to change up their tactics on the fly as new technologies are opened up and new opportunities become available. Which technologies will end up in your hand is fairly unpredictable so it certainly behooves the canny player to dive in straight away with those short routes and see where the game takes you. At the beginning of their turn, before taking their regular action, a player may discard locomotive cards to buy one technology card. The cost is indicated by a symbol on the cards.
