It is really difficult issues to deal with, but instead of running from this, Karen embraced this in her book, dealing with this heavy issues in an amazing way. By the way, initially I wasn’t a fan of Asher but as the story progressed his character development revealed a lot about him and I grew to like him. As fearsome, powerful and beloved as their male counterparts, it’s time to look beyond the columns of a ruined temple to the awesome power within .

In the beginning I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this book as it seemed a lot like The Selection only with the Roman Empire twist on it. I am a strong believer and do agree with the previous statement, but the way it was applied seemed naive. Her writing is beautiful and I easily got a feel for the surroundings, understood the context, and enjoyed the developing relationships. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve read a number of books with similarly tortured characters that never left me feeling like this one did. Inside the purse, her grandmother places a piece of paper on which she’s written a Bible verse and a loving note. I understand that this is the first book in a series, but why was there no insight to at least make me want to read the next book?

It suffers from flat characters, a completely unlikeable, contradictory, “not like other girls” (an actual quote from Electa around the 90 page mark) protagonist, and a plot that appears to be nearly entirely ripped off from The Hunger Games, Divergent and Red Queen. I personally found this scene unnecessary and nearly deleted the book from my Nook before continuing on. Crerar, who, like a contemporary Virgil, introduces us to sublime and terrifying entities, guiding us all the way through the complex and fascinating meanings of femininity and faith. In a cross-cultural and global approach, this book discusses Eve alongside Inanna, Radha and Aphrodite in the context of sex and desire, while in the chapter in evil, witches and Hecate are compared with other deities like Lamashtu and the Cihuateotl, as well as monstrous women such as Taraka, Medusa, Rangda and Lilith.

Not because the writing was poor, or the story wasn't compelling, but because the truth of this story was hard to hear. A series of events finds Shannon send back to the 21st century alone, pregnant and surrounded by mysterious people. I am very glad I finally read this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves contemporary Christian fiction books, especially the redemption power of Christ. Beautifully written, the prose flows, conjuring luminous images with the occasional riveting turn of phrase: e. I don’t honestly believe this book would have been picked up by traditional publishers this side of 2020.

The inhabitants pride themselves on being “ambitious, steadfast, ruthless and cold” - shades of virtutis, gravitas, pietas and dignitas. As Shannon finds a loyal alliance in Clint, she realizes that there is darkness aiming for everyone she ever cared for, and if she does not act soon enough, she might end up losing them. While it is just a scene, it is enough to sicken someone who keeps their feet on the ground concerning the education and mental state of the youth today. I loved the use of mythology throughout the story, and if you are a fan of Greek/Roman mythology, I recommend reading this book. Acceptance of his new mate and the discovery of that their world is much better without Rhiannon; the centaurs embark on a mission to stop the Fomorians and prevent the end of the world.I'm so obsessed with the aesthetic that this book captures and the whole world that MJ Woodman created. Electa’s fate takes an unexpected turn when, against all the odds, she is Chosen to remain in her society for the rest of her life and to compete in Imperial Panore, a once in a generation event to find a wife for the future Emperor.
