Description
Redex Lead Replacement maintains good engine performance by stopping valve seat recession, so it protects the fragile components within classic engines. It’s also safe to use other Redex products, such as our Petrol System Cleaner, in a classic car, and this help will keep it in the very best condition, removing harmful deposits to help improve engine life. Also, if your tank is larger or smaller than 50 litres you can still use the recommended dosage with same level of performance being achieved. Redex DPF Cleaner lowers the burning temperature of the soot trapped in your car’s particulate filter system, meaning that it burns away more efficiently during regular day-to-day driving. This means you don’t have to drive for long distances to get your engine up to a high temperature, which is normally how you keep a particulate filter regenerating. AdBlue, the blue liquid that’s keeping your car green. Confusing, I know. AdBlue is a solution injected into the exhaust of diesel vehicles to neutralise harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. AdBlue injection is a standard feature on most diesel vehicles made post-September 2015 as a result of the Euro 6 emissions standards.

If this still doesn’t clear it, we recommend taking the car to your dealership as they can help update the software. Emergency top-up bottles of AdBlue I’ve just finished a three-month trial of Redex fuel system additives in my Mazda MX-5 to see if I could feel any increase in my car’s performance or measure any significant difference in its fuel economy. As I outlined in previous reports, the type of fuel additive that I’ve been using is a fuel system cleaner rather than an octanebooster. The goal isn’t to turn regular unleaded into premium unleaded by increasing the car’s octane number, but simplyto give all the tiny pipes and injectors a thorough clean so they can do their thing without being clogged up. Not especially. AdBlue is injected into the exhaust gases after the combustion process takes place and, thus, it has little or no effect on fuel consumption. There’s currently very little data to suggest that AdBlue affects fuel consumption either positively or negatively and any slight increases or decreases are factored in to the fuel consumption figure by manufacturers. My AdBlue warning light is on — what should I do?While the Redex AdBlue 5L is suitable for most diesel vehicles, the effectiveness of the spout design can vary based on the location of the AdBlue filler cap on specific vehicle models. If your diesel vehicle is fitted with an AdBlue system it will be automatically be injected into your exhaust as you drive along. Similarly, to the fuel entering the engine, the AdBlue tank will continue to be utilised until it runs empty. Running the tank empty is not recommended and will cause poor running, it could even prevent the vehicle from starting. The rate at which it is consumed depends on the size of the car and the driving style; the more economical the car and driver, the slower it will be used. VW estimates that theTiguan and Passat use 1.5 litres of AdBlue every 620 miles, and suggests that a tankful of AdBlue gives a driving range of 3,000-4,000 miles for the Tiguan, and 4,000-6,500 miles for the Passat. Running out of Adblue® will cause your car to stop, so having a spare bottle to hand is sensible and will help to keep your car running for longer.
AdBlue and does your diesel car need it? What is AdBlue and does your diesel car need it?
Although AdBlue is made up mostly of de-ionised water, you cannot use water to fill the tank. All trademarked AdBlue products meet a specific standard, so it is essential that you avoid using any other product that is not recommended as it could damage your car’s SCR system resulting in costly repairs that won’t be covered by a warranty. There has been no noticeable difference in performance, and I suspect you’d need a laboratory to really show any improvement. In the variable nature of the real world, and in a well-maintained modern car, I couldn’t detect any difference. If I use Redex System Cleaner regularly, do I still need to use Redex Advanced Fuel System Cleaner every 3,000 miles, and if so, why? Please note though, Redex has been safe-tested at 4 times the recommended dose, so please don’t exceed this. What is the Mix Ratio for Redex?

Many diesel cars registered after September 2015 use AdBlue to reduce emissions. In general, if you own a Euro 6-compliant diesel Audi, BMW, Citroën, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz or Peugeot, it’s likely to use AdBlue technology. There’s often a clue in the car’s model name, which may have 'Blue' or 'SCR' in it. AdBlue has been designed to minimise nitrogen oxide emissions. By injecting AdBlue into the exhaust, it neutralises most of the nitrogen oxide gas. The reduces tailpipe emissions and allows cars to pass increasingly stringent emissions tests without drastic hardware updates. AdBlue is a cost-effective, simple and surprisingly capable solution without resorting to much more extreme engineering that would vastly increase diesel vehicle prices. Why You May Need AdBlue Most vehicles will display an AdBlue warning on the dashboard when it's time to refill. It's crucial not to ignore this warning, as running out of AdBlue can prevent your car from starting or lead to decreased engine performance. Once hailed as an eco-friendly alternative to petrol thanks to its relative efficiency, diesel soon lost its lustre thanks to a series of scandals in 2015 known as Dieselgate in which Volkswagen and a number of other manufacturers were found to be cheating on emissions tests. The scam involved the fitment of cheat devices that could recognise when cars were being tested, which resulted in emissions figures much lower than the cars actually produced under real-world conditions. Since then, partially as a result of the rise of the electric car and more economical turbocharged petrol engines and partially due to a total loss of public trust in diesel, sales of diesel cars have been on a precipitous decline. Diesel sales fell by more than 48% in 2021 compared to the previous year and diesel cars are now comfortably outsold by electric models.

Adblue contains a 32.5% solution of urea in deionised water which is injected into the exhaust stream to break down harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. When topping up Adblue®, it’s important not to spill it as it’s quite an unpleasant liquid, and contaminants in the tank can cause damage, so you shouldn’t use funnels or dirty bottles. The AA estimates that it dealt with around 20,000 AdBlue-related breakdowns in 2017. So if you’ve run out and are still driving, stop the car to top it up but don’t turn the engine off. What should I do if I put diesel in the AdBlue tank? The fluid used in most vehicles is known asAdBlue, aregisteredtrademark owned by the German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA), which ensures standards are maintained. The fluid is stored in a tank in the car, butunlike petrol or diesel it is not injected into the engine; instead it is fed intopart of the vehicle’s exhaust. A chemical reaction convertsthe harmful NOxexhaust gases into harmless nitrogen and water. Redex AdBlue 5L is a diesel exhaust fluid that is used in diesel vehicles, primarily those built after September 2015. It's a blend of urea and deionised water used to reduce harmful exhaust emissions. Audi says its A4 saloon has a 12-litre AdBlue tank that gives it a range of approximately 6000 miles between top-ups. Peugeot says the AdBlue tanks in its cars should only need topping up every 12,500 miles and, if you don’t cover that many miles a year, the fluid will be topped up for you during the car’s annual service. How do I top up my car’s AdBlue? What I really think about... supercars, America, foreigners, car launches, Top Gear, the battle of the sexes and cars " The easiest solution to this is buy our special 4 or 5l Adblue® which comes with its own easy pour spout. Just attach the spout to the bottle and it will help you to pour it cleanly into the tank. This means you won’t spill any, and you don’t need any other equipment. The bottle can be stored easily in your car or garage until it’s needed.

I mentioned in my last report that I’d previously noticed a slight cough or misfire from the Mazda on a couple of occasionsprior to using the Redex products, but hadn’t noticed anything since using the fuel system cleaners. I can report that the engine has still been running cleanly over the last six weeks, so the stuff appears to be doing its job in that respect. Summary And water, of course, will do nothing to eliminate harmful emissions from your exhaust. Does AdBlue affect fuel consumption? A specially formulated high diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) for use in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems You'll find you need to top up the Adblue tank about every 4000 - 5000 miles. The MMI will tell you you're getting low about 1500 miles before it runs out so you get ample warning, but don't leave it as when it runs out the car stops. The cheapest source of Adblue found so far is Morrisons but you can get it at Halfords, most garages and petrol station forecourts and some even have Adblue filling facilities. As a last resort an Audi (or indeed any) main dealer will fill it for you but it's one **** of an expensive option.
One shot of Redex fuel cleaner is capable of treating a fifty-litre fuel tank, but those who have never used a fuel additive before – or those who own an older car – may wish to use two shots for an intensive clean, particularly during first application. The Adblue® system is by far the easiest way to top up your car’s Adblue® tank and is guaranteed to work in any type of diesel engine. The inability for manufacturers to easily reduce the emissions of small diesel engines with the addition of AdBlue systems has led to an overall decline in the number of small diesel cars on the market, the majority of superminis and smaller cars now being driven by economical turbocharged petrol engines and/or hybrid powertrains. Does my car use AdBlue? After the initial 500mL dose of Redex Advanced 5-in-1 system cleaner, I have been adding a small 90mL bottle of Redex petrol system cleaner every time I have filled up my fuel tank for three months. In my situation, I don’t think I really need to keep using the additives at that rate in my car. I am likely to add a 90mL bottle every month or so and probably use the concentrated cleaner every six months to keep the Mazda’s fuel system sparkling clean. If I had an older car (or when this one starts getting older and higher-mileage), I’d keep using it every tank or at least every other tank.
