Established in 1798, Tobermory distillery is situated in the heart of the Hebridean capital of the Isle of Mull. I dont want to say I am disappointed with this whisky, but it has now definitely less smoke and it is coloured. Driven by the variation in whisky and bitten by ‘the bug’ he was unable to resist taking his incessant geeking-out to friends and family. The resulting dram is bursting with flavour - heather and pine cones with woody sea salt and floral notes on the finish. The 18 had a quieter smoke/peat presence with a hint of coast when compared to the 10 which is vibrant, loud and full of flavour.Production was upgraded in 1990, with the distillery becoming capable of producing 1m litres of spirit a year.

I appreciate peat whisky isn’t for everyone but peat whisky lovers who haven’t tried Ledaig 10 don’t know what delight they’re missing out on. Notes of Turkish delight and rose petals balanced with candied fruits and grapes followed by rich leather and a beautiful peppery spice. There’s still so much I have yet to try and I get a bit overwhelmed at what my next whisky purchase will be.This is a vintage, 17 year Ledaig that has been matured in a combination of American Oak and Moscatel wine casks.
