Engineering specialists Teddington have launched a new, enhanced version of their energy-saving CombiSave product to make it suitable for households with high water pressure. As my boiler's up in the loft the preheat function runs quite often because it's cooler and in winter before I fitted the timer it would preheat a couple of times every hour wasting gas and electric. Both my wife and I are in our 70’s so of course, as we aren’t in the banking fraternity, we have to spend our money as wisely as possible. We have had a Worcester Highflow combination boiler for 7 years and have always been concerned about how much domestic water we waste when washing up , etc. Already have a quote? Accept it online. Some homes with a combination boiler wait over a minute for water to run hot from the tap; on average 21 hours of time person per year could be saved by not having to wait for hot water! CombiSave works by automatically controlling the flow of water every time a hot tap is turned on – allowing the boiler to heat the water faster and only returning the flow to normal once a usable temperature is reached. That's it! You'll feel the benefits of your CombiSave straight away — and it won't need any future maintenance or use any extra power My calculations have only been on the water wastage side, so any gas saving is a bonus. I measured the ‘unsatisfactory’ water during washing up and have found that it takes 0.5 to 2 washing-up bowl contents before the water is hot enough (this varies because there is a small hot water tank inside the boiler – is this pre-heat?) The bowl holds 5 ltr so wastage is 2.5 to 10 ltr, which twice a day means 5 to 20 ltr per day. Kenny Maxwell, Sales Manager at Teddington, said they decided to design a new model following talks with customers.Heating technician Ben Evans said: “Installing a CombiSave is a simple 20-minute job. For those on a water meter or for homes where there’s a long hot water run – for example if the boiler is on the top or bottom floor of a three-storey house – it can really help to save money.” The TEDDINGTON COMBISAVE 15MM CSA0003 is a genuine, brand new Teddington Systems product, covered by a Teddington Systems manufacturer's guarantee. CombiSave is a valve which is made from dezincification resistant brass and is a thermostatically controlled valve which is fitted with two rotatable elbows, which allows it to be fitted to a range of 15mm pipe configurations. It helps to make homes more fuel efficient and offers householders free, impartial advice and support to reduce energy costs. Regardless of how huge your house is, you will only need one CombiSave per boiler. I already have a CombiSmart. Will I still need a CombiSave?

You sound as if you have the ‘pre heat’ function on your boiler. That can, according to David from Combisave, cost you quite a lot over the year. I appreciate switching it off may mean you don’t get the heat in the airing cubaord in the summer months, but is that so much of a problem? I’ve never had an airing cupboard, although I remember one from my youth in my mum’s house, and so don’t really miss one. Switching the ‘pre-heat’ off might save a you a hell of a lot of money on your gas bill! If you live in part of the UK with hard water, the limescale can damage your central heating and leave deposits in your dishwasher, kettle and washing machine. Controlling limescale helps protect your boiler and central heating system from damage that could cost you in the long run. Why do I need a system filter?

Also, usefully, I have been on a water meter for years, so can also easily calculate a daily summertime water usage volume from my previous bills. Typically, for our two person household it has been around 200 litres a day. And yep, good point about the savings being seasonal on the water savings, I should have thought about that. I’ll continue to monitor over the coming months and into winter to see how the water savings change over the seasons. I guess there is an effect on gas too? but I will not be able to monitor that so easily as the space heating will be on over winter months which interfere with my gas readings. On the older type of combi it takes a few seconds (up to 15 or so) for usable hot water to be produced or about 30 seconds for an Ideal Response! It means that even more households can now take advantage of the savings that CombiSave can generate.” If you've got a combi boiler, it can take up to a minute for your hot water to get to the right temperature – that's a wait of around 21 hours a year! With a CombiSave, you'll cut your wait time by up to 50%. On average, it takes around 30 seconds fewer for the hot water to get to your taps. You'll notice an increase in flow once the water heats up, but don't worry, your taps won't suddenly start bursting with hot water. How can I get a CombiSave?
