MagniFi Max AX includes a remote and works with most TV remotes out of the box. Its intuitive front-panel OLED display indicates adjustments and automatically dims when not in use. And MagniFi MAX AX is Roku TV-ready for even easier configuration and control. One area where the soundbar really impressed us was its bass as the 10″ subwoofer really takes no prisoners when it comes to its bass prowess and overall power. If you feed it with some demanding low end performance it will surely punch you in the face with its constant sound waves but not on the expense of clarity or detailed bass. Being a ported sub may show its weakness in some extremely crazy tempos and slightly lose its timing but this was a rare case and most of the time will have no problem with whatever you throw at it.

Polk Audio Introduces New MagniFi Max AX Sound Bar Systems

Sound United, a Masimo company, was founded in 2012 with a simple mission – to bring joy to the world through sound. Today, we are one of the world’s largest portfolio audio companies and home to several legendary audio brands—Denon ®, Marantz ®, Bowers and Wilkins, Polk Audio, Classé, Definitive Technology, HEOS, and Boston Acoustics ®. Each brand boasts its own philosophy and unique approach to bringing home entertainment to life.Again, the MagniFi Mini AX’s sense of height effects is more generally defined than specific, but for a small soundbar, it gets the tone of sounds right. Setup is simple with 3-in/1-out high-speed, high-bandwidth 4K HDMI connectivity and input switching. Connect the sound bars to gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, streaming boxes, and more. Connection to your TV is via HDMI eARC or ARC with the included HDMI cable; an optical input allows connection to older devices.

MagniFi Max AX and MagniFi Max AX SR each include a 10-inch down-firing subwoofer that delivers the deep, effortless bass for which Polk is famous. Wireless connection allows for convenient placement without cable clutter. Polk's decision to dedicate three speakers for the center channel alone also leads to clear and detailed dialogue in virtually any situation. While it’s a lighter flavor, it’s about as close as you can get to a discrete center-channel speaker in a single bar, letting you wave goodbye to dialogue issues. From sitcoms and prestige dramas to intense action, you’ll hear every lip movement and all the different vocal textures of your favorite characters. Great for music, too You use ‘Movie’ for most movie and TV fare, and you can hit ‘3D’ to jazz up any stereo drama at the expense of some clarity. There’s a ‘night’ option which tames the subwoofer to save the neighbours, and finally a ‘Music’ option which presumably minimises processing, though it still uses the middle driver, and the manual describes it as “for enhancing musical content in TV shows and movies”. Anyway, this mode seemed to select itself by default when streaming music, as ‘Movie’ and ‘3D’ seemed to do with surround/stereo from the TV input, so you won’t spend time getting lost in the sound modes, as can happen on some rival bars. But even if your TV does not support CEC the MagniFi Max AX gives you the ability to teach your IR (infrared) remote to control volume, mute and other functions (such as source selection or bass volume) on your soundbar. Detailed instructions on how to do this are included in the manual and they are very easy to follow.

Polk MagniFi Max AX: Their Most Advanced Soundbar Yet?

With the Magnifi Max AX Dolby Atmos bar, Polk has shown a unique ability to load up the top features and attributes most users need, without skimping on the most important feature of all: impressive sound for your money. Offering a minimalist design and interface, solid features, and great performance, the Max AX appeals to those seeking a simplified Dolby Atmos setup that rises above the crowd without blowing your budget. High Points Unlike Denon who opted to use just a few discreet speakers in their DHT-S217 2.1 Dolby Atmos Soundbar, Polk is using an 11-speaker array featuring dedicated center channels, up-firing height speakers and Polk’s Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) technology. The main front channels had good separation even with being in close proximity to each other. Panning effects had very nice precision and good directionality while the center channel delivered crystal clear dialog even without using Polk’s VoiceAdjust technology. Given the MagniFi Mini AX’s petite dimensions, it would be unrealistic to expect true up-firing speakers to fire sound towards the ceiling, and that turns out to be the correct assumption. Polk uses its patented SDA (stereo dimension array) technology to expand the soundstage and manoeuvre effects to achieve the impression of multiple speakers around you.And as a not-insignificant final bonus, the MagniFi Mini AX proves a very good soundbar/lozenge for music listening. A great deal of music sounded highly enjoyable, the bass continuing to be a strength here as well, and the system could be taken really quite loud without the usual musical distress that soundbars get into. We found it tempting to notch up the bass one or two points with those extra volume controls on the remote control, but that could cause some material to become overwhelming: the underlying bass content of RedBone’s The Witch Queen of New Orleans (streaming via AirPlay from Apple Music) was overcome by a weird swampiness in the lower ranges until we returned the bass to its neutral position. Speaking of subwoofers, even without room tuning, I was very pleased with how well the Magnifi Max AX's large cabinet fills in the holes in the system’s lower register, melding with the bar for a near-seamless transition from the deeper bass tones into the lower midrange. The two work in tandem across content for a sweet mix of balance and authority. Earlier this year, Polk Audio pulled off a real tour de force with the Polk MagniFi Mini AX soundbar, an ultra-compact model capable of creating surround sound in Dolby Atmos and DTS:X without obscuring the screen. A compactness made possible by the brand’s exclusive Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) processing. The Polk MagniFi Mini AX soundbar offers an enveloping soundstage from a compact, discreet device thanks to Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) spatialization technology.
