Description
Grind your coffee; pour hot water over coffee and it filters through the paper resulting a clean, delicious coffee. This allows for easily pouring out coffee post brew and ensures airflow while brewing, avoiding vacuum sealing.
Grinder: The best coffee grinder for a Chemex (and any brew method) will always be a burr grinder , since burr grinders provide more consistency in grind size and resulting taste than blade grinders. You can always use pre-ground coffee, though we recommend freshly ground because it does elevate the flavour of each brew. Once the desired amount of coffee is brewed, lift the filter with spent grounds out of the brewer and discard. Open a Chemex® Bonded Coffee Filter into a cone shape so that one side of the cone has three layers, and place it into the top of the brewer. If you have an electric coil stove top, you must utilise the Chemex stainless steel wire grid (TKG) in between the Chemex and the coils to prevent breakage.
After the grounds bloom, slowly pour the brewing water over the grounds while keeping the water level well below the top of the Chemex (quarter inch or more). Brewing with Hot Plate Deactivated: (This method can be used to make Iced beverages): Set switch to double line "II" A solid red light will appear below the word "Chemex®" found on the base plate. It became so popular that it’s even earned a spot at the MoMA and appeared on numerous films and TV shows, such as James Bond’s From Russia with Love and Friends. The single glass piece doesn't just look elegant, it also brews coffee without imparting any flavours of its own, creating clear, pure, flavourful coffee without bitterness or sediment. Next — the best part — let the coffee “bloom,” a process that saturates the grounds and doubles the weight of your coffee. You can get a Chemex coffee maker in various shapes and sizes, from the Three-Cup Classic Chemex to a 13-Cup Handblown Chemex . The thicker paper of the Chemex filters removes most of the coffee oils and makes coffee that is much "cleaner" than coffee brewed in other coffee-making systems.
Pour the remaining water in three batches of 120g (for 3 Cup Chemex) 240g (for 6 Cup Chemex) using a circular motion, until you’ve poured a total of 400g (for 3 Cup Chemex) 800g (for 6 Cup Chemex) including the bloom. We recommend pairing it with the Hario Buono Pouring Kettle and Hario Drip Scales to ensure you have all the tools necessary for the perfect brew.
The classic carafe makes a clean cup of coffee with far less sediment than any other brewing method . Water measurements: Use either the cup measurements on the water tank on the Ottomatic, or the glass Chemex® carafe to measure your water. They’re both different in the way they make coffee, as well as the taste of the coffee they produce, and neither one of them is very expensive. Once the water has drained through the filter completely, pour it out of the brewer while keeping the filter sealed against the coffeemaker wall. The Chemex has no moving parts and will work forever unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished.
