Also today, Lionsgate has just officially set Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey (1999) for 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release on 10/11. The disc will include Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range, with the existing 5.1 Dolby TrueHD sound mix. Extras will include audio commentary with Steven Soderbergh and writer Lem Dobbs, a second commentary with Soderbergh, Dobbs, and actors Peter Fonda, Terence Stamp, Barry Newman, and Lesley Ann Warren, and the film's isolated score. With the effects of COVID starting to slowly feel like a distant memory, the film industry is reverting to its previous cinema-to-physical time frames. This means that there’s more of a wait than before with the likes of The Batman hitting cinemas in the UK on the 4th March 2022 and DVD, Blu-ray and 4K for the 13th June 2022, compared to the 30th September 2021 and the 20th December 2021 for No Time To Die. One more bit of physical 4K news today: Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just revealed that they’re working on a UHD release of Brett Ratner’s Red Dragon (2002) which will include a new Dolby Vision HDR grade. There’s no street date yet, but we’ll post an update when it’s official. The turning point came with Spider-Man No Way Home, which was incredibly popular during its cinema run and acts as a good model for Top Gun 2. As a result, it looks like production companies with successful big screen movies will then delay the launch for home entertainment to give the film the best chance at success at the box office.
