A few blemishes aside, the eight-year wait for Tunic has been completely worth it. If you could lay out all of its pieces separately like a broken puzzle, each one might seem derivative. However, when you put all the pieces together to create a full picture, they make for a game that's quite unlike anything else. While Tunic takes big cues from the ultra-challenging games from our past and present, it also includes a range of options that allow players to customize the combat challenge to suit their interests, without actually removing the fun of fighting ferocious fiends. Players can opt out of some of the more technical aspects of the combat, or even enable a “no fail” mode. Whether It wants to have simple combat, akin to something like the Zelda Oracle games, but that approach gets stale incredibly fast here. a b c d Shouldice, Andrew; O'Dwyer, Danny. Tunic 's plot received mixed opinions from reviewers. Handley applauded the way the story was told without words, and Jeuxvideo 's reviewer found the ending interesting. [33] [34] The IGN and PC Gamer reviewers found the plot interesting but secondary to the rest of the game, Coyle of PC Gamer concluding that it was "a nice addition rather than a compelling reason to play". All that remained was to make a “little” world for the fox to explore… a b c Green, Holly (March 15, 2022). "Designing content for 'no one' to create Tunic's vibrant and charming world". Tunic is an action-adventure game set in the ruins of a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, in which the player character, an anthropomorphic fox, navigates the terrain and fights off hostile creatures. The player is initially given no directions or instructions, and the majority of the text is in a constructed writing system, with only some words presented in the player's selected language, such as English. The three-dimensional terrain is typically displayed from a fixed isometric view, though the perspective shifts at certain points. [1]

Tunic review

Stamina and mana? Even here, Tunic takes the best of Souls and Zelda. You can extend your health bar by finding and cashing in certain items - you can extend all your stats this way - but for health you can also collect more estus-flask-equivalents, which initially come in several pieces that must be put together, like Zelda's hearts. The systems from two games are reworked, the secret harmonies found until you can't see the joins. a b c d e f g h i j k Wakeling, Richard (March 16, 2022). "Tunic Review - Fox Die". GameSpot. Fandom. Archived from the original on April 7, 2022 . Retrieved March 16, 2022. Tunic desperately tries to recreate the magic of classic Legend of Zelda games, all too often doing so to a fault. It tries to be hands-off and instead leaves the player with no idea of where to go. It wants to have simple combat, akin to something like the Zelda Oracle games, but that approach gets stale incredibly fast here. More than anything though, Tunic left me feeling lost in its mysteries, which I didn’t want to solve out of need or drive, but because I couldn’t bear them anymore. Is there a better alternative? a b c Handley, Zoe (March 16, 2022). "Review: Tunic". Destructoid. Gamurs. Archived from the original on March 19, 2022 . Retrieved March 16, 2022.

Tunic starts the way so many adventure games do: With its main character, an adorable Fox wearing a tunic, waking up on a beach. The game offers you very little guidance from there in terms of where to go or what to do. The basics will be intuitive to anyone who’s ever played a Zelda game (find a sword and start slashing enemies and grass), but Tunic itself takes a very hands-off approach to the player experience. a b Romano, Sal (November 14, 2022). "The Game Awards 2022 nominees announced". Gematsu. Archived from the original on November 15, 2022 . Retrieved November 14, 2022.The difference probably comes down to a lot of things: time, passion, having a clear idea of what you want to achieve, even if it's wildly complex and ambitious. And more: a certain sympathy with the form. In this regard, here's another mangled quote: they say that only a bad poet hates the rules. This is because a good poet thrives with restrictions, with established expectations that can be twisted, subverted, inverted. They find limitations and traditions propulsive, accelerative. This is Tunic to its core. Explore a hostile and intricately-connected world of shady forests, sprawling ruins, and labyrinthine catacombs
