Description
Also the scene with Karou and Akiva and Thiago in the same room and the scene after that was awesome.I don't even know how the author came with that idea.It was brilliant and wise! It was certainly a typical book two of a trilogy or multi-series. The main character, Karou, is tested in more ways than one and hits some pretty low points. NECESITO INTERACCIONES BONITAS ENTRE KAROU Y AKIVA QUE ME HAGAN FANGIRLEAR, POR FAVOR. Es que no hubo ni una, ¡ni una! T_T For this one, Karou is left deciding where her loyalties lie as she explores more of her old self. As a reader you wonder what she’s going to do next to survive. Will she continue to suffer and help the chimaera rebuild an army? Or make amends with Akiva and run away like they were supposed to?
In this emotionally intense if loosely woven sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone (2011), Taylor puts Karou, a chimaera resurrected into the body of a blue-haired human teenager, through severe tests of both heart and soul.
in short
I still cannot figure out why this series is marketed in the Young Adult genre. I had the pleasure of recently meeting Laini Taylor and she admitted that her books are sold as adult books everywhere else in the world. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing in these books that is offensive and there isn't sex, drugs or anything that you would not want a young reader reading. But these books are complex and amazing and their story lines are definitely intricate and I feel that these books are better suited for mature readers. A younger reader may not appreciate the complexity of the story. Furthermore, the writing is mature and again it is best for more seasoned readers. If you have an avid younger reader who likes a good fantasy novel, have no fear you can put this in their hands, the only caution I have is that this installment does have a great deal of violence as its story line is centered on war. I think that placing these books under a YA label may keep them from many adult readers who would certainly appreciate these tremendous books. I also wanted a tiny bit more romance- I understand that more action was needed to advance the plot, but there was, like, NO romance. And I want to see more of them 🥺🥺 Or...perhaps Fate laid out your life for you like a dress on a bed, and you could either wear it or go naked." However, Madrigal's spirit has survived and lived on in human form, in a girl known as Karou to her friends, Zuzana and Mik. The novel opens just as Karou has disappeared after Akiva and his Misbegotten siblings come after her near a bridge in Prague. Karou flees to help the surviving chimaera regroup, and as she is the only one left amongst them capable of resurrecting the dead, Thiago, The White Wolf must tolerate her existence, though he plans to kill her as soon as possible.

But then there’s YA born from the brain of Laini Taylor. I’ll read it. Nay, I’ll devour it. Breathe it in and hold it in my lungs for as long as possible before I’m forced to exhale or lose consciousness. I’m not saying that she’s exempt from using some of the above themes and tropes. Hell, I think this book has all of them. You know what makes it so different? It’s the beautiful writing, the pacing of the story, the incredible characterization, the depth to which she delves, the entire execution really.
