Along with the 50-100mm F1.8 APS-C lens and 20mm F1.4, the sd-Quattro H gives us a clue to where Sigma are at as a company in 2017. Very advanced and very innovative. If you look at the pylons and the field of sheep on the right-top, these don’t quite come out clearly on the Sigma. yes, DNG RAW for compatibility is certainly good when we consider Sigma's own software is not much ... but hey, this is not they type of camera i'm going to use daily and shoot thousands of action shots in a sport or wedding event for example! this is the type of camera i'm going to use only occasionally and for mostly still shots in the studio and possibly for some landscapes outside too ...

ABOVE: The window at Foto-Braune in Berlin, one of my favourite photographic haunts Quattro improvements The move to an ASP-H sensor (the largest Foveon sensor yet), has all the benefits you might expect: access to more light, meaning improved image quality and the ability to use more of Sigma's lenses closer to their intended angle of view. There's a 1.5x crop mode for use with APS-C-specific 'DC' lenses but the full 1.3X crop means that it's easier to find wide-angle options when you need them. There doesn’t seem to be much evidence of cost cutting or share-holder related decisions anywhere on the body.

P) Program AE (Program Shift is possible), (S) Shutter Speed Priority AE, (A) Aperture Priority AE, (M) Manual

However, so long as you're aware of these limitations, the SD Quattro H is a very nice camera. Its user interface is remarkably polished and responsive, the ergonomics are rather good and the build quality is top-notch. Sigma has also announced another camera for it’s mirrorless camera family, the Sigma SD Quattro H, which is very similar but with a slightly larger 25.5MP APS-H size (1.3x crop factor). The claimed equivalent resolution is 51MP.

Sigma sd Quattro review: Build and handling

The Sigma Foveon X3 Quattro CMOS doesn’t just mimic film, the underlying sensor architecture is layered like film emulsion. Effective Pixels: Approx. 38.6MP T(Top): 6,200×4,152 / M(Middle): 3,100×2,076 / B(Bottom): 3,100×2,076
