I’ve avoided most Salomons over my stubborn impression that they ran a bit narrow, but the Sense Ride 4 fit my wider foot well, especially after a short break-in period. Best for long or steep runs SensiFit: SensiFit cradles the foot from the midsole to the lacing system, providing a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit all around the foot. EndoFit: This is an internal fit sleeve designed to hug the foot in exactly the right places and provide a precise fit. The heel counter has been slightly redesigned, with a visually more narrow and slightly higher profile and with thinner padding around the collar.

As mentioned earlier, the upper material and fit have been dialed in ever so slightly, going from being perfect to yet more perfect for my tastes.Just enough cushioning and Optivibe foam to absorb vibrations and decrease muscle fatigue without weighing you down. Will keep you comfortable and moving for many miles on the trail. New models always bring about a risk of alienating your old customers by changing too much. However, Salomon has the balance just right with the SR4. Lightweight, versatile, and incredibly cushioned, the Sense Ride 4 is perfect for trails of any lengths and difficulty. The Sense Ride 4 is everything; stylish, light, agile, firm but flexible, with impressive cushioning and support. Indeed, that Sense Ride 4 performs as you would expect from such a prodigious brand.

Salomon Sense Ride 4 Review – iRunFar Salomon Sense Ride 4 Review – iRunFar

The Salomon Sense Ride 4 is, without a doubt, the best and most versatile of the Sense Ride offerings to date. An accommodating and durable upper combined with a responsive, but not-too-firm midsole, and a do-everything outsole should appeal to every runner. You seems to suggest a preference for the “Cascadia or Xodus 10 or Caldera 5” in your review but give the ride 4 a whopping 9.7. I’m not sure I’ve seen a higher score recently. So a little confused. Also why is there not a comparison between these shoes in the ‘ comparisons’ section at the end of the review? Not a criticism but curious Optivibe: A combination of foams, one to dampen, one to propel. This was developed to reduce vibration upon foot strike aimed to decrease muscle fatigue without affecting the overall rideIn creating the Salomon Sense Ride 4, the company made a number of almost imperceptible tweaks to make this latest version much more versatile and closer to an all-around shoe, but still happiest in the mountains. The men’s advertised shoe weight is 10.2 ounces, while the women’s is 8.3 ounces. So why didn’t this moderately weighted, 8-millimeter drop trail shoe with great durability dominate the market? As someone who has run in every iteration of this shoe, I have my druthers, and the bottom line as to why previous iterations of the Sense Ride didn’t receive more acclaim is frankly the ride of the shoe itself. The updated Sense Ride 4 is as comfy and responsive as the Sense Ride 3. The upper effortlessly optimizes your foothold, particularly around the heel, and features a resistant, anti-debris mesh for added protection. Very excited about the Sense Ride 4 – I owned 3 pairs of the previous model. Currently still on my first pair. However, I do intend to run an ultra in them, so I will be buying a fresh pair soon. Outsole: The Sense Rides feature a Contagrip MA Midsole. This is built for the widest variety of surfaces. It balances both the geometry and the rubber compound to deliver confidence on wet, dry, hard or loose surfaces, and offer long-term durability. The Contagrip rubber outsole is unchanged from the previous version and it is one of the highest performing, durable and versatile outsoles on the market.

Salomon Sense Ride 4 Review | Tested by GearLab

After getting accustomed to the narrower fit of this shoe, it felt snug and stabilizing and inspired confidence by keeping my foot in place. Get a grip on any trail with a full rubber Contagrip outsole and Profeel Film to protect your feet from sharp objects. If you’re looking for a competent shoe in rougher terrain, the Salomon Sense Ride 4 is an excellent choice. The materials used in the Sense Ride 4 are some of the things that make it so great. I'm also pleased to find that the SR4 has kept the comfort of the Optivibe EVA foam.Jeff runs mostly on very steep technical terrain above Boulder often challenging well known local FKT's. I agree with you on the SR3, after running in them for the sake of reviewing, I never ran in them again. That said, it became my favorite shoe for just slipping on easily for a walk, a hike or errands, they are so comfortable and versatile for all things not running. The SR 4 however feels more like a running shoe to me, which seems surprising given the same midsole and outsole, but the changes in the upper and minor drop in weight are enough to get me running in them consistently beyond review duties. Of course I couldn’t steer you away from a Cascadia or Xodus 10 or Caldera 5.
