For both children, I hover on all the fabulous prepositions as the book follows the cat "behind" the door and "up" the stairs and "in" the box. I really liked the way the text and images worked together, in this one, and the way that Brown sets up her readers' expectations, only to pull the rug out from under them!This book has some truly lovely illustrations that cover all of the pages, it can be used as a great tool for getting children to use their imaginations and to encourage discussion. Ruth Brown's spooky read-aloud book pretends to be scarier than it is: even the youngest listener should be delighted by the punch line. The use of dark colors and double page illustrations makes the spookiness of the story pop out at the reader. I know we are not supposed to be envious of other's but gee whiz, I sometimes just cannot help it when I see such wonderful writing and such beautiful artwork and wish I COULD CREATE like that!
