Description

It is designed to inform the reader of the endless possibilities that fabrics offer to the design process. Or that the tibetan antilope produces such a fine wool that it was hunted nearly to extinction to produce luxury shatoosh shawls and that nowadays, to protect this endangered species, it is illegal even to own a shatoosh shawl? I like that they really put thought into the fact that many people may end up owning one or the other and made sure that each book stands on its own. The book will be useful for anyone who works with fabrics and is the ideal companion to Fabric for Fashion: The Complete Guide. But I really appreciate that they sampled so many variations of fabric because it’s the variations on similar fabrics that are really hard to tell apart, right?

Awful quality there was swatches missing on several pages and the swatches that were there are creased and a mess. The book is divided into sections about animal fibers, plant fibers, and man-made fibers, and is subdivided into smaller groups within each section. Textile textbooks on the other hand, are written by probable near geniuses who assume readers will pore over every word, memorize it and amuse genteel companions at cocktail parties with witty quotations from it. A lot of time the synthetic version of a weave is harder to work with than the natural version and I think you can really see how this is true with the side by side comparison included in the book. After thinking over them for a bit, I felt that they could really be useful since so many of us now purchase fabric online and swatching isn't always an option.

With information on fibres, basic construction of fabrics, weights, construction, and weave comparison, the book will help student fashion designers to make informed textile choices based upon an understanding of raw materials together with the processes that make up a fabric.

Did you know that 100 million households around the world are currently involved in cotton production? great for specialisation talks around career pathways, good contemporary references, and good resource book overall with a comprehensive list of certifications. Secured in an attractive ring-bound folder, with descriptions alongside them, the fabrics are in their raw state, before bleaching, dying, or finishing, so that their properties can be observed without thedistraction of color or pattern. Great hands-on content but the cover/binding for this began tearing and falling apart from the first moment I took off the plastic wrap and opened the book.

Here are the 10 most amazing and wonderful fabric swatch books that are must-have but are also affordable. I am lucky enough to have a first edition of this book, so I don’t need to be in the drawing, but I want to say that I love having it on hand and have used it countless times to check the difference of fabrics.A bestseller for over 10 years, Fabric for Fashion: The Swatch book is a unique resource with 142 swatches and yarns of the most recognized and widely used varieties of fabric to encourage consideration of not just their aesthetic appeal but also their structure, feel and weight.

Color Charts XI provides ample space for you to record color gradients and all your different color combinations, which will help you never forget which colors you earlier used to make the shade. That said there is so much good info in these books, particularly my favorite, The Swatch Book, that the absence of an index is not a deal breaker for me.A must for anyone who cares about the fate of fabrics and the goods they become, as well as the fate of our planet. J. Pizzuto’s Fabric Science Swatch Kit meets the technological advances in fibers through fabrications meeting the explicit performance requirements. I was even more excited when I received “Fabric for Fashion: The Swatch Book, Revised 2nd edition with 142 Fabrics and Yarns” as a gift. However, if you want to see and feel the difference between wools such as serge, crepe, herringbone and melton, you’re covered.
