The most important thing about this project is a response to one of the protagonist’s lines,” said director Yuzuru Tachikawa in an Annecy interview with Crunchyroll’s Mohamed Mir, “which states very strongly that the best musicians… are those who manage to convey their emotions through music. A mi me enganchó desde la primera página y tuve que leerlo del tirón; instantáneamente me sentí identificado con los personajes, y me ha hecho conectar con recuerdos y sentimientos de una manera que no esperaba que un manga fuera capaz de hacer. Despite that, this manga has the most memorable panels and is well-drawn in the most important moments. With his days in senior year running out, Dai swears a heartfelt vow: "I'm gonna be the best jazz player in the world. Country boy Dai Miyamoto (voiced by Yuki Tamada) moves to the big city of Tokyo in the hope of making it big as a jazz saxophonist.

For some viewers, it might be seen as an artful, visual evocation of the way that jazz itself disrupts and transforms its medium; your mileage may vary. After having written about mountaineering with the Vertical series (awarded many times for its very realistic and informed aspect), the author Shinichi Ishizuka released in 2013 a manga about his other passion: music. The main character, Dai, is always strong and straightforward,” Namba told Ryo Takayama in Tokion magazine. Phenomenal story, plot progression, and characters as the high school protagonist makes discoveries and mistakes in his quest to explore the Jazz idiom on tenor saxophone. A sequel, titled Blue Giant Supreme was serialized in Big Comic from September 2016 to April 2020, with its chapters compiled in ten tankōbon. The teenager quickly confronts his own limits and his determination is put to the test throughout his apprenticeship. Written and illustrated by Shinichi Ishizuka [ ja], Blue Giant was serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic from May 10, 2013, [3] [4] to August 25, 2016.

I didn't even perform all that well and was stuck on second violin (To those who get what I mean, will get what I mean when I say that lol), but without a doubt still loved music. The early pages of the manga focussed on Dai’s discovery of music as a small-town boy in Sendai, and his tribulations as he scrimped and saved to be able to afford a saxophone in the first place.I also like that we aren’t told what the main character is rehearsing because it gives the reader a sense of freedom and lets you imagine his sound, because if you were to pull out a recording of Coltrane or Armstrong you wouldn’t hear the real him. From his first music theory lessons to decisive encounters, with the first chaotic concerts, sacrifices and doubts, Dai will have to reconcile his unconditional love of music with his friends, family and work.
