After making many pictures of animals from the bag of stars she collected, a monkey steals the bag and spills them all over the sky. The distinctive patterns in her illustrations which are both bold and delicate, and her colour palette of deep shades of blue threaded with gold, yellow and bronze, complement the story perfectly. I actually didn’t know it would be a children’s book and I plan to gladly donate it to my local library who does not have a copy. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! This enchanting contemporary folk tale about how the stars were made is exquisitely illustrated, beautifully combining colour, shape and pattern.

In the story, a fisherman's daughter worries he won't be able to find his way home when the moon disappears, so the sun helps her to make the stars to guide him home.

When she chases after him he throws the stars to the sky placing them imperfectly unlike her placements. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! Poonam Mistry has invented her own ‘pourquoi’ or origin tale about how the stars came to be, lighting the night sky, and how they are arranged, some formed into the pictures seen in constellations, some distributed more randomly. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors.

Accompanied with incredibly stunning and intricate illustrations, this picture book would make a great addition to the bedtime routine.Mama Polar Bear tells her cubs about what lies outside their den, and reassures them not to worry or be frightened: ‘hush now, you’re snug with me.
