Description

In That Rough Music an old friend of Hannay’s dies and leaves his estate and fortune to his half-African daughter. When Richard Hannay meets the beautiful Sybil Verney at a race-meeting, he cannot foresee the web of lies and tragedy in which he will quickly become ensnared. A chance encounter with a young lady on a train leads Hannay into a strange weekend of mistaken identity and danger. Robert Powell is a very able actor and he contributed to the success of the 1978 production of "The 39 Steps".

Multipart British whodunit about the gentlemanly hero of John Buchan's novel 'The 39 Steps,' a man who finds himself entangled in intrigue on a regular basis. Not too many of the stories are straightforward espionage tales, and settings range from the Highlands to the "hellish" fens to an Orient Express type train. The goods and services will be collected by us within 28 days of our receiving your cancellation notice and we will charge the cost of collecting the goods or services, and will deduct this from any sum owed by us to you. John Buchan's hero Richard Hannay (played by Robert Powell) gets into all sorts of scrapes with spies, crooks and other undesirables. However, in 1920 or 1921, Hannay again finds himself in an adventure, this time with his wife's help unravelling a kidnapping mystery in The Three Hostages. Robert Powell followed up his stirring performance as Hannay in the 70s version of '39 Steps' with this 80s TV series featuring the same character. But Europe is a cauldron of political intrigue and, amongst the old Empires, a new power is rapidly making its way—a power that resents Britain's mastery of the waves: Imperial Germany.I am a big fan of The 39 Steps (all four films and the Criterion Theatre production) and I have found Hannay to be a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience. A clumsy embarrassingly obvious script, stodgy direction, heavy-handed political messaging, atrocious acting, leaden pacing, a total lack of action, dull and humourless. Unfortunately, the painstaking Edwardian period detail was undermined by childish writing and inane plots. Robert Powell reprises one of his most famous roles, that of Edwardian adventurer Richard Hannay, in this hit drama series spinning out of John Buchan's thrilling tales of derring-do most famously, the classic novel The Thirty-Nine Steps . This episode is based on the short story 'A Point of Honour' by Dornford Yates from his book The Brother of Daphne).Hannay: The Complete Series All 13 episodes from the television drama series, following the exploits of Major Richard Hannay (Robert Powell) - spy, soldier and adventurer - as he helps save the British Empire in the days before the First World War. In his autobiography, Memory Hold-the-Door, Buchan suggests that the character is based, in part, on Edmund Ironside, from Edinburgh, a spy during the Second Boer War, and a British Army field marshal and CIGS. In these episodes, Hannay finds himself charged with murder and suspects he has been framed by his arch-nemesis, the dastardly German officer Count Von Schwabing (Gavin Richards). The best episodes are very lightweight and rely to an embarrassing degree on unlikely narrow escapes carried out by methods that are both silly and corny.
