The introduction of mesh heads on these kits being a big plus giving more life like play and they are quieter. Normally we take a look at more serious electronic drum equipment here, but this new offering from Donner looked interesting enough to get our attention. I didn't want to fiddle with the DM5 and getting a soundcard with MIDI (didn't have one at the time) so I "upgraded" to the Alesis I/O. The drum kit can also be connected to an external speaker system, any wired headphones, or a USB MIDI device such as a sound card or audio interface. I bought a DM5 module and for the pads I got a set of Pintech single zone cymbals (that I still have and still use after many many years, because they work and feel better than the much more expensive Roland cymbals that I now have and also use).

It also appears that all those QC issues with the pads have been addressed, so maybe they are not as bad anymore. The set uses a very good kick tower, which is probably one of the best kick towers that I’ve come across on budget-friendly kits like this.
