About this deal

Dorothy Koomson is my all time favourite author and I’m yet to read anything I didn’t like from her, this is no exception. I was absolutely delighted to learn that Dorothy Koomson, one of my top ten, or quite possibly even my top five favourite authors had written a new novel. Overall, it was a really good read and if you like the slow simmering burner style of books then this one is for you.

But now she has decided to walk away from it all including her husband, Wallace, before her past secrets catch up with her. My Other Husband is fantastic in so many ways, it draws you into Cleo’s life, like your standing outside the window watching the drama unfold. There are lots of twists and turns in this book which keep you gripped right until the very last page. Rating: Thank you to the publishers for a free advanced copy and the goodies in the photo below in exchange for an honest review. But now she has decided to walk away from it all – including divorcing her husband, Wallace – before her past secrets catch up with her. Heath is really nothing at all as we first imagine, and as his behaviour becomes increasingly out of control, and his jealousy and paranoia increases, his actions have such a profound effect on Cleo.

We then go further back in time to 1996 to her days as a student at Leeds University where she becomes best friends with Trina. This book was definitely a slow burn for me but when it got going with the twists and turns it really was an attention grabber and kept you hooked right until the end. Somehow the first few chapters read like any other women's fiction book to me, especially because I chuckled quite a few times. Every book of hers that I’ve read has always gripped me from the very 1st page and this one is no exception! I have read several of Dorothy Koomson's other novels, including The Ice Cream Girls, The Brighton Mermaid and Tell Me Your Secret, and this novel, My Other Husband is just as good.

She is a very different person in the present day and it’s intriguing trying to work out what, how and why her life has imploded. There is plenty of tension and suspenseful moments and some well thought out plot twists as it builds to a very good ending. I took up various temping jobs and eventually got my big break writing, editing and subbing for various women's magazines and national papers.

DOROTHY KOOMSON is an award-winning, internationally bestselling author and journalist whose books have been translated into more than 30 languages, with sales that exceed 2 million copies in the UK alone. This was my first Koomson book (even though I've had one of her previous books on my shelf for the last 11 years, it's moved with me 7 times!Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? A clever and multi-layered dark thriller, My Other Husband is a gripping read that left me gasping in shock more than once.

Bringing it back to present day and Cleo has moved on, she’s now married to Wallace but he’s connected to her past in such a way that it’s impossible that the past will not come back to haunt Cleo. I love tying together the hints I’ve seen in the present day plot with things going on in the past as more and more gets revealed. As well as the main plot, Dorothy Koomson also makes important social commentary on how Black characters are removed or stereotyped from novels and TV shows and how it has to stop.

They absorbed the nonsense and made me not mind as much if they went off on random tangents that were nothing to do with me. Usually, being in a library space, with the books and the atmosphere they created, acted like a shield to protect me from the excesses of being around other people.
