Description

The aim of SuperNatural is to go beyond the static experience of the sample-only piano sound found in many other digital pianos and create a voice that can change and evolve, just like a true acoustic piano. Complete with built-in Bluetooth audio and MIDI connectivity, take your playing to the next level with play-along sessions and online lessons. Roland’s Wurly and Rhodes-style tones are good as usual, and can range from soft to biting depending on your playing dynamics.

Because I’m used to a lighter action, I’m using a touch sensitivity setting that is one lighter than the default of medium; this does help me hit my desired level of dynamic control, but … it doesn’t change the actual weight of the keys. Unlock the full power of the FP-30X through its incredible connectivity options or why not expand your performance potential even further through various expansive additions such as the KSC-70 stand and KPD-70 three-pedal unit (each sold separately) for the full experience. It is heavy, but at just the right amount, giving it a realistic feel that comes close to matching real acoustic pianos. Now do note that the P-125 has been discontinued and hopefully just temporarily replaced with the P-125a; this is exactly the same piano, except the audio interface has been removed from the P-125a, so that means you can no longer stream audio in or out of the piano on the USB port which IS a huge loss!If you’re intending to use the FP-30X in a live performance, it’s probably a better idea to get an external amplifier. Prior models only included basic Bluetooth MIDI functionality, so I was excited to see what extra functionality this enables.

After sound, the second most important feature you should review on a digital piano is how it feels to play. The app may actually not even WORK so you’ll be FORCED to memorize key combinations anyways – more on that a bit later in the review when I go over the app. The replacement for the popular Roland FP30, the Roland FP30X is an excellent upgrade and amazing value. Even slight changes in dynamics can result in an audible change, ensuring that beginners learn valuable listening skills.

Behind the authentic feel and playability is Roland’s powerful SuperNATURAL sound engine, picking up all the nuances of experienced pianists and helping newer players develop more character and dynamics. With 88 full-size keys, this piano allows for a complete range of expression as your technique and composition skills grow. When you reach the polyphony cap, the piano starts to drop the earliest played notes to free up memory for new notes, which in turn affects the quality and fullness of the sound.
