About this deal

In honour of the February 22nd release of his new album, Repeat Offender (out on Joel Plaskett‘s New Scotland Records), acclaimed, Toronto-based artist Peter Elkas is playing in Guelph every Thursday night in March.

In 1998, her high school band, String Bridge, made it to the state finals of the national battle-of-the-bands, run in conjunction with the Rock Eisteddfod. Surely one of Canada’s greatest unheralded musical treasures, Jessy Bell Smith is a young woman with enormous soul and generous spirit that fills grateful spaces whenever she sets her dynamic voice around her charming, compelling songs. She’s appeared on recordings by Tannis Slimmon, Lewis Melville, Richard Laviolette, Nathan Coles, and Evan and Geordie Gordon to name a few and, as an open, enthusiastic collaborator, she often joins such aforementioned friends on stage, where she’s a seasoned performer. I argue that this continued re-imagination of the site facilitated experiences beyond those associated with the site’s official history. In the President's Desk series, SSRC President Anna Harvey reflects on the potential for social and behavioral science to innovate and evaluate workable policy solutions to pressing societal challenges. In 2017, Bell quit her role as an editor for ELT publishing to focus on her own creative projects and businesses. First place in The 2021 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards (Science Fiction/Fantasy) for How Icasia Bloom Touched Happiness. Raised in Guelph, Ontario, Bell-Smith has been playing music publicly for nearly 10 years, starting with open stages at 19 years old and then joining acclaimed, hometown band, Beautiful Senseless, as a core member.

Old Man Luedecke’s name and choice of instrument may suggest a world gone by, but the lyrics and melodies that he creates are contemporary. Although his interest in the pipes has continued, he has branched out into other forms of music in recent years. The shows feature an impressive list of opening artists and guests (most of whom have their own brand new records coming out soon) and the first four will take place at the Ebar. I show how the Yugoslav state charged grand spatial projects with the task of catalyzing social transformation, materializing ideology, and articulating Yugoslav socialism to domestic and international audiences.
