About this deal

A book leaves our collection of over seven million titles and begins a new chapter every two seconds, enabling more goods to be reused. Harnden is a brave man to have written this book so clearly identifying IRA kingpins in South Armagh to anyone who would care to take a second look. Eventually, Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson uncover historic hidden files, documents, and dark secrets from three decades earlier that certain high-flying public figures would rather remained unread. Among the important new stories contained in the book is the tale of how an Irish police officer working for the IRA betrayed the most senior RUC officer to be killed during the Troubles. Then, I knew very little about the situation in Northern Ireland and even less about the IRA, except for what I heard from my then-fiance/now-husband, who grew up there.

Unlike the rest of the six counties where the Provos had been contained to a great extent by the '90s, and where sectarian violenced loomed large, the conflict in South Armagh amounted to a much more "pure" guerrilla war between the British Army and the PIRA, and concluded in almost perfect military stalemate, with neither side able to decisely defeat the other. Here Kevin Traynor studies if the area has managed to embrace the Good Friday agreement as the rest of Northern Ireland has, or whether a legacy of the conflict still lingers with a sense of paranoia and suspicion. Patterson shows us how the militarised boundary line of old has morphed into an invisible and semi-wild frontier, where the ghosts of a thirty-year war continue to haunt the ‘ceasefire generation’.He also directly accuses several people who were never convicted of any specific event, which I found a little odd but he has the evidence to back up his accusations. I’d first learned about the Troubles as a kid when I learned my grandpa emigrated from Ireland at 10 years old and due to the conflict didn’t want to talk about it, violence or war at all.

However, do not let this put you off if you have an interest in understanding the course of the `Troubles' in South Armagh and how it influenced the broader struggle in the north of Ireland. Speaking of the RPs, the murder of RUC Superintendent Robert Buchanan, a ruling elder in an RP Church, is discussed in this book. Particularly revelatory a the time of publication was the tale of Robert Nairac and his tragic fate a he hands of IRA thugs. You should take care when trying on items to ensure that clothing is not stained with fake tan, make-up deodorant etc.Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material. Eventually, Johnson and his ex-MI6 colleague Jayne Robinson uncover historic hidden files, documents and dark secrets from three decades earlier that certain high-flying public figures would rather remained unread. includes references and comments from British army officials, sínn feín officials and members of the provisional IRA. Overall I find the topic interesting in general, so I really enjoyed just the sheer amount of information provided, all in a book that is really easy to read and that is written very straightforwardly. It reads like a forensic historical analysis, yet, the subject it addresses, in Irish political terms, could not be more contemporary.

First, although it's a gripping read and each paragraph seems to follow from the previous one, on a chapter-by-chapter scale it's a bit disorganized. Toby Harden did a fantastic job teaching me about these trying times; their causes, and the villainy from both sides.

Dust Jackets are not guaranteed and when still present, they will have various degrees of tear and damage. I'm not sure how successful this was as there where times when the commentary did seem slanted in regard upholding the 'bandit county' title of the book. Meet Joe Johnson today and discover how he uncovers hidden truths from the past in an effort to prevent another devastating crime happening now. One of the liberally served portions of backhanded compliments that one of the British Army interviewees in Bandit Country gives to the local Provisional IRA volunteers is that many of the local operators would have made excellent Army NCOs. Collin's book 'Killing Rage' is a graphic account of his personal involvement in Provisional IRA military activities and his later disillusionment.

It also includes information from informers’ statements to British military intelligence at Bessbrook Mill, an informer’s statement to a UDR handler, reports of British Army Intelligence Commanders and even publishes montage photographs of ‘IRA suspects’ and RUC photographs of an ‘IRA unit’. Captures in a dispassionate, detailed and intelligent manner the role of South Armagh (not just the South Armagh PIRA) in the conflict of the past thirty years and before. At 15 years old I was finally deemed old enough and mature enough to be able to read the book with its context and not just the "up the 'RA" kind of attitude that I had been exposed to in school, and since I came into possession of this book I must have read it maybe 10-12 times. The massacre at Tullyvallen Orange Hall took place when the minister of my old Reformed Presbyterian Church was serving in Tullyvallen. All used books might have various degrees of writing, highliting and wear and tear and possibly be an ex-library with the usual stickers and stamps.Even Harnden's sources within the British security forces admit they feared yet grudgingly respected the South Armagh IRA's ingenuity and ruthless determination. That's not easy to do even when presenting two viewpoints or opinions with fictional characters; how Harnden managed it with real people in a real situation is beyond me. For the first time, the identities of the men behind the South Quay and Manchester bombings are revealed.
