About this deal

The High Republic Adventures comics by Daniel José Older feature a character named Elder Tromak. Tromak is captured by Marchion Ro because he knows where half of a rod is that can allow Marchion to control the Nameless. All of this explains how Tromak knows where to find the missing piece of the artifact and how Marchion knows Tromak has this coveted information. 6. What is the origin of the Gaze Electric? Sunshine discovered the planet of the Nameless and put the Leveler in the possession of the Mother, but how did Marchion Ro and his ancestors learn about the Leveler and the Nameless? free. Marda’s spirit is as strong as her faith, but this means that she’s very easy to deceive and manipulate.

The Path of the Open Hand are the previous owners of the Gaze Electric, which would become Marchion Ro's personal flagship. This is a hint that the Nihil have roots in the Path, in addition to his ancestors Marda and Yana being part of the cult. Something that I feel the need to mention and give multiple rounds of applause for is the representation within this book. Multiple queer couples, non-binary characters, and maybe even one aro/ace character (not entirely sure). It seems that with each new book, it sets a new standard for characters that bring more and more representation. The High Republic is for everyone, and I’m grateful that with each story, it puts the meaning behind those words. Yana is even deemed the Leveler’s Champion as it follows her, although this is only because the Leveler is attracted to the Force artifact in Yana’s possession known as the Rod of Seasons, a secret that Yana hides to protect herself from the Mother. The cover for the upcoming young adult novel Path of Vengeanceby Cavan Scott already teases that Marda Ro’s journey will become even more intertwined with the Nameless moving forward. Yes. Dalna is peaceful and sparsely populated. That is why we, the Path of the Open Hand, chose this place as our home. There is very little in the way of distractions. You’ll want to hurry, though. This is the rainy season, and during this time of year you’re likely to get soaked if you dally outside too long.” The Outer Rim planet Dalna has become the focus of a Jedi investigation into a stolen Force artifact, and Zallah Macri and her Padawan, Kevmo Zink, arrive on the pastoral world to follow up on a possible connection to a Dalnan missionary group called the Path of the Open Hand. Members of the Path believe that the Force must be free and should not be used by anyone, not even the Jedi. One such believer is Marda Ro, a young woman who dreams of leaving Dalna to spread word of the Path throughout the galaxy.Padawan Kevmo Zink and Jedi Master Zallah Macri arrive on the planet Dalna, following clues regarding Force Artifacts that have been stolen from different points across the galaxy. Dalna’s a world located in the Outer Rim, while it’s not a vastly populated planet there’s an organized society that does what it can with its limited resources.

Over time they get to know each other better. This starts out as part of their duties. Kevmo and his master Zallah believe the Path of the Open Hand are responsible for the missing artifacts and want to get closer while Marda, unaware that the “Children of the Path” have been stealing artifacts, wants to show the Jedi that they have nothing to hide. And to potentially enlighten them with the Path’s teachings and philosophies. But not all are happy with the Jedi's involvement or ready to concern themselves with peace. Rumors begin to swirl that the Jedi bring war in their wake . The distrust and anger that for so long fueled the Forever War now threaten to corrupt the communities of Jedha. When Yana’s usual team of Kor and Treze arrive, they are ambushed almost immediately. The Grafs knew who they were and why they were there. The Mother had sent them to their deaths. Perhaps tired of Yana’s questioning and wanting a fresh set of devoted servants, or simply being unwilling to pay the credits Yana was owed, the Mother wanted her dead and everyone else would just be collateral damage.

My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Kor Plouth, one of the few Force sensitive members of the Path, gets a sense of unease from the large jewel that Sunshine gave the Mother and that the latter is keeping by her side. This is foreshadowing that the gem is actually a Nameless egg, and the one that hatches the Great Leveler. But then the Mother was frowning at him. “Are you okay? You have a very strange expression on your face.” Parts of it are slow and others are repetitive. We’re repeatedly reminded of the Path’s philosophy and the group’s members routinely talk about their purpose. To accept and give gifts freely given. That the force should and will be free.

This enthralling follow up to Path of Deceit finds cousins Marda and Yana Ro bound by blood but driven apart by faith. Starting Phase II in this timeline is something that I thought was odd, I was very skeptical about it but after reading Path of Deceit it makes perfect sense. The main characters are Kevmo and Marda Ro, two teenagers with opposing beliefs regarding the Force. Sunshine blinked, forgetting himself for a moment. His wariness melted away. “Ah, you must be the Mother.” The Path of Deceit by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland is the first book released in the 2nd phase of The High Republic Publishing initiative. The story takes place 150 years before the Great Disaster and other events told in The High Republic Phase I.

The Guardians of the Whills are referenced throughout and a former Guardian even founded the Path. Long live Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus. Yana Ro, a cousin of Marda Ro, is arguably Path of Deceit’s most interesting character. While Kevmo and Marda are all-in on their opposing ideologies, Yana finds herself in a middle ground. She has no love for the Jedi and while she is a member of the Path, she is actively pursuing a way out of the cult over the course of the book. Her allegiances lie with herself and her girlfriend, fellow Path member Kor Plouth, as well as her cousin Marda. He was just about ready to go when there was a sudden pounding on the outside of his ship. Sunshine punched in the code and the boarding ramp lowered, the stabilizing legs at the end settling with a squelching sound that made Sunshine shudder. When he peered down to see who had been hammering the side of his ship, he saw a massive Nautolan dressed in strange blue-and-gray robes, blue paint smeared across his brow and decorating his hands and bare arms. But that wasn’t the most noticeable thing about the man: his head tentacles had been shorn away, leaving behind blunted and unnatural stumps. It was a brutal reminder that despite the man’s kind smile, the galaxy, and its citizens, could be very, very violent. Master Creighton Sun and Jedi Knight Aida Forte arrive on Jedha with delegations from both planets to formally end the "Forever War." The Jedi hope that the harmony of Jedha's many factions, along with the signing of a peace treaty, will create a symbol to the rest of the galaxy of what can be accomplished through unity.

Meet the enigmatic leader in this preview of the Phase II YA novel.

Marda, seeking answers finds her way to the chamber where there is now an audience to what the Leveler has done. She seeks answers and the Mother tells her the Leveler is a balancing act of the Force. Given to them so they can begin to set things right in the galaxy and set the Force free from those who would abuse it. Marda’s worst fears were realized. She had warned Kevmo of his abuse of the Force and she felt like this was the confirmation of her beliefs being true. Rather than blame Kevmo for his own demise, she chooses to blame the Jedi. The Jedi, she believes, must be stopped. The Mother tells them more of these creatures are out there and that they will find them. This plays directly into the line from the Eye of the Storm comics of how Marchion Ro knows the whereabouts of more of these creatures. It also provided us with the origin of how Marchion Ro’s inherited hatred of the Jedi began.
