The book did make me feel like I was in the roman times. I think that the history in the book is realistic, because of the characters names, the activities that they did and the description of their clothes although the story was sometimes a little hard to follow, but I did really like all the different characters because they were all very funny. Throughout this time I will be uploading videos to support you with the work I set for English and Maths and we will also be having zoom calls when possible. This will be your chance to discuss any difficulties you may be having and for me to support you with your learning during this time. I will also be providing links to Oak National Academy Lessons. These will each have a specific focus and will be topic based as well as English and Maths. The funniest part of the book was when the elephant (Tiddles) broke into a prison, and used water to squirt the guards, to save Waddya’s family. Maddashbananus made the skateboard and the people who race in races use skateboards. Discuss with someone your answers. Perhaps you could measure objects within your household and apply the correct measurements to them.

The book is about a bird called Croakbag and he is telling you a story about a boy called Perilus and Scorcha who go charioting. Chariot Champions is a quite short and funny book about a typical family in Ancient Rome. The story is narrated by a snarky and self-obsessed raven who describes the adventures of the family when the father is accused of fraud and arrested, as well as Hysteria and Scorcha (the ex-slave charioteer) and their love affair, as well as Perilus' dream to become a charioteer. Lots of the characters have amusing names - like Hysteria, who always cries, or Fibbus Biggus, the man who accuses the father of fraud. The anachronistic inventions of Maddusbananus the inventor are also funny. I would like you to take these sentences and write them out using the correct punctuation. Remember the inverted commas only go around the part that is being spoken. Some of the Roman names are hard to read and so made it difficult to follow each character at times but I enjoyed the book, it was easy to read and funny at times. Week commencing 11.01.2021 : breathe, thought, February, perhaps, quarter, regular, earth, accident. This book is a great read and is really worth reading. My favourite character is the crow who is full of humour my favourite part is when Tiddles the elephant broke a prison wall. This book is about a Roman family who is thought to have stolen money from the Imperial Mint. Croakbag, the raven tries to figure out who stole the money and why they do it. He can’t just ask everyone in Rome, “Have you stolen any money from the imperial mint?”! Although I liked the book, it didn't make me want to read more by the same author as the actual chariot race was a disappointment. I thought there would be more about chariot races. The race was fun and full of excitement but short! It had funny parts where they saw an elephant. Daniel: This book is set in ancient Rome. It is narrated by a talking Raven called Corvus, who thinks he is very clever and funny. He is the pet of the main character Perilus, who is the son of the head of the Roman Imperial mint. Perilus’ family are very wealthy; he lives with his dad, mum and sister in a large villa and the family have two slaves. Perilus wants to be a charioteer, much to his father’s disgust because he wants him to head of the Imperial mint like him one day. Perilus is only 11 and likes to get up to mischief which is probably why he wants to be a charioteer, one of the most dangerous jobs in the Roman economy.

I really enjoyed this book because it is really funny and adventurous it makes you want read more and more. I thought that Tiddles the elephant was really cool and was extremely funny. The main character was Croakbag who told the story but was also in it. Croakbag was very clever and also told us a few things to impress your parents. I don't think this book set out to be realistic but it did make me want to read more about the Romans. I wouldn’t have chosen Jeremy Strong but this book has definitely made me think different about this author. I think this book is a really good read aimed at 6 - 10 year olds.

Give AI a Try!

If you like Romans then take this book and read it but not too FAST …YOU DON’T WANT TO LOSE THE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoyed this book because it is very funny and is written from the perspective of the talking crow Smartimus Maximussus. The crow teaches you about the Romans’ family life, and even a little bit of Latin. Most importantly this book is very entertaining and could be an easy read for ages. I would recommend this book to anyone aged 7 to 11 and would rate it 8 out of 10. Week commencing 06.01.2021: calendar, breath, bicycle, peculiar, weight, height, circle, favourite. What I liked about the story was that it was very funny and interesting because of Croakbag and Perilus who were really funny. The book starts with a boy named perilous. He wants to take part in the most epic chariot race in all of Rome. But first, Croakbag , the smartest Raven in Rome, has to solve a mystery about who stole all the money from the bank. The robbery was planned by a man named Krysis & three other children, who successfully stole the money . But Croakbag tactically stopped them.

The history contained in the book was quite poor. It described a Roman family in modern times so it didn’t show what Roman times were like. The author tried to add humour but I didn’t find the jokes very funny. The book may suit younger readers more (age 6-7 maybe). My favourite part was when they first stared to break out of prison because every one gets scared of the ginormous elephant when it distracts everyone with its huge sneeze.Croakbag tells us the story in a very funny way and the bit about the Emperor’s visit for dinner really made me laugh. His descriptions of the chariot races are also very exciting and made me want to read more. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone who likes comedy, history, Ancient Rome and chariot racing. I am interested in Roman times. I like learning about Gladiators and the towns Romans lived in but I think the book didn’t inspire me even more. To find out about history I prefer more factual books.

It is a story which is told through the eyes of a raven. He visits different places and meets different people like the emperor. Antonina: I really enjoyed this book and read it in only three days. This book is about a boy called Perilus and a raven his pet. The raven does not have a name. I think my favourite place was the Villa because it was described well. It has a swimming pool and a bush growing in the middle of it. WHAT A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE!!!!!!! Perilus wanted to be a charioteer…BUT HE WAS PUT IN PRISON BECAUSE OF MAD PRACTICING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His friend was an inventor and wanted to invent a tree that grows ships. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember this is not all the fun!!!... This book is so interesting I give it five stars!!!!!!!!!! If Jeremy wasn't a writer he would want to play the piano really, really well, or be a terrific artist. The book is narrated by a very clever raven called Croakbag and is about a very good charioteer called Scorcha and his young friend Perilus. Croakbag is actually Perilus’s pet but behaves more like a family friend. Even though Scorcha is an excellent charioteer, he does not have his own chariot, and Croakbag tells us what happens on the day of his big race. To find out what happens you must read the book yourself. This book is extraordinary because it is funny and it makes you see what is happening in your mind. There is lots of fun and adventures to be had. I loved it. Hello to my brilliant Year 4 Class. I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy. I am missing seeing you all and I am looking forward to speaking and working with you this week.
