About this deal

We love hearing from you. If you have any further questions about aerating (or anything else lawn-related), get in touch, and we’ll gladly help!

One of the best things about manual aerators is how little faff they are to use. This manual aerator can be taken out of the box and used instantly, there’s no cable to worry about nor complex assembly. It’s very lightweight and easy to store. Plus, it makes it easy to work freely around the garden with no power cord to worry about.Using spiked lawn aerators, that pierce the ground, will allow air to reach grass roots as well as water. Grass roots will become stronger which will lead to a healthier lawn that’s better able to withstand heat and drought. The most expensive option on our list is Outsunny. With just a little over double the price of the cheapest, it begs the question - is it worth spending all that extra money? WIndeed, this lawn roller actually has a capacity of 40 litres. The width that can be used is 58 centimetres, and the cylinder diameter is 32 centimetres. There are 4 working depths to choose from, but I found all but the shortest one too deep for aerating and definitely more suited for scarifying, but that’s usually the case with these types of aerator. Changing depth is very easy though and there is a handy lever for just that purpose. Roots (usually) naturally grow AWAY from the sunlight. So, if you aerate your soil, sunlight reaches the roots through the natural pores in the soil. This encourages the roots to burrow down into the ground, making the root system deeper. If you're going to use sand for weight when filling the cylinder, we'd recommend using a funnel. Trying to fill it up without one will make a mess and likely get sand everywhere.

Aerating with hollow tines can affect the immediate look of your lawn – it may look a little holey afterwards. But scarifying is the next level of lawn care tasks – your lawn looks like it’s been chewed up by an enthusiastic mole after scarification. Tow-behind aerators are rather large pieces of garden equipment and won’t perform well on small lots or narrow spaces. Tow-behind aerators are best for lawns larger than one-half acre and regular in shape. Consider the width of the aerator and your turn radius as you shop. The Coopers of Stortford roller costs 60% more than the MaxxGarden version. What features make it worth this price difference? It is a tough and well-built cylinder, made of steel that has been finished with enamel. This means the roller will be strong and won't damage lawns during use. Specification: Power consumption: 1400 W, Working width: 33 cm, Number of blades: 20 pieces, Number of claws: 48, Scarifying depth:– 3 / 3 / 7 / 9 mm, Weight: 13 kg The verdict is out regarding the efficacy of liquid aerator. At any rate, why add chemicals to your soil when you don’t really need to?

The best time of year to roll out the lawn is in the spring. Roll your lawn in the season when grass is coming out of its dormancy and should have active roots. Light weight roller will do fine for this task and you can use it as necessary even if you have hard surfaces like paths that need some attention.. If you’ve got a large area of grass, consider an electric aerator with a working width over 36 cm. Electric aerators require less manual labour, and often have a scarifying function, providing two services in one. For medium lawns, look for an electric aerator with a working width over 30 cm. You could also use a manual rolling aerator if you don’t want the hassle of cables. For smaller lawns and irregularly-shaped grass spaces, choose a push aerator, handheld model, or aerator shoes. We think the Yard Butler Lawn Coring Aerator is a great manual option for small yards with clay soil. This is a 2-in-1 aerator and scarifier and comes with both a 48 claw aerator roller, and a 20 blade, stainless steel spike drum for scarifying. Both are ball bearings mounted for smooth operation and longevity. They are simple, cheap and work really well if you get a decent pair and the only thing that lets them down is that they require you to walk around the garden for quite a long time and it can be quite tiring – from my perspective as I mention above it’s a great opportunity for exercise and clearing a chore. I like the look of the ABREOME Lawn Aerator Shoes. Fork aerators will hollow tines The first thing you need to consider when purchasing a lawn roller is its width. Ensure the size of your garden by opting for larger rollers that have wider working widths and will therefore cut down the time taken in completing the task If you're working on uneven ground, it may be necessary to detach the scraper bar. Your roller will function just as well without this bar and you can return it if need be. The dimensions of this roller are a fraction of the MaxxGarden. To help make your decision little easier, we have chosen a selection of different aerator types that are currently among the most popular in the UK and tested and reviewed them for you. Here’s what I came up with from a combination of years of experience and some personal testing: What does aerating a lawn do?
