READ NEXT: Best 4K Blu-ray player UK: The best Ultra HD Blu-ray players you can buy Sony UBP-X800 review: What you need to know There's an openness to Wonder's vocals as his voice naturally strains, building up to the chorus. When it finally gets there the X800 delivers a huge sense of energy and dynamism - the player refuses to shy away from a challenge. The x700 delivers a superb picture performance, flawlessly reproducing the 4K resolution, 10-bit video depth, WCG and HDR encoded on the discs. The Sony UBP x700 offers four times the resolution to that of the ordinary blu-ray players, which leaves room for exceptional video quality with impressive details and color contrasts. HDR10 First, there’s no automatic detection of whether or not a disc you insert supports Dolby Vision. You therefore have to manually select Dolby Vision “on” or “off” – an irritation made worse by the fact that it isn’t always easy to know if a particular disc has Dolby Vision or not.

Shots of the sun can turn into shots of a white hole in the sky, for instance, or bright reflections on a rippling sea can turn into a weird white patch torn out of the sea’s surface. If a player has a chance to add value with 1080p content, it has an even greater opportunity when it comes to standard definition content where most of the image is effectively being interpolated. Whilst we can't actually remember the last time we chose to watch a DVD – in the age of 4K and HDR the idea of willingly using a format that is now twenty years old seems faintly ridiculous – we did find in testing that the X800 did an excellent job of deinterlacing and scaling the standard definition images for an Ultra HD screen. In fact the performance is on a par with Sony’s high-end TVs and although we couldn't see any difference when comparing to the UDP-203 and UB900, the X800 did seem a bit more accomplished, particularly with a well mastered DVD, when compared to the LG E7. The Sony UBP-X800M2 also proves to be an excellent upscaler of sub-4K content, particularly from HD Blu-ray discs. Upscaled images look sharper and more detailed without looking noisy or plagued by “ringed” or forced object edges.Built to higher standards than many Blu-ray players, Sony uses construction techniques more usually reserved for high-end Hi-Fi. The casing features Sony’s unique Frame and Beam chassis for excellent vibration resistance. Reducing vibration gives the internal electronics an easier life, thereby reducing distortion. With the Dolby Vision incorporated in the sony ubp x700, the picture quality is remarkable, bringing each scene to life with vibrant and striking color details. This feature makes your cinema experience more exciting than ever, ensuring an immersive and realistic picture quality. BT.2020 Color Spaces To view 4K Ultra HD 60p content, make sure that the proper setting is selected in HDMI settings on your TV.

Picture quality is superb. In terms of resolution, this Sony delivers everything to the screen with zero artefacts or anomalies. Colour performance is exceptional. The player interpolates UHD with up to 4:4:4 subsampling, and presents band free colours. Unlike rival UHD players from Panasonic, the player doesn’t offer selectable output modes. Instead, it automatically sends the maximum amount of data within the capability of the connected screen. For example, if your 4K TV supports UHD at 60p disc, the player will output 2160p, with a frame rate at 60p, Deep Colour at 12bit, and chroma at 4:4:4. The Sony UBP x700 and the UBP x800 are quite similar when it comes to design, with a few subtle differences. The design of the blue-ray players is important not only for visual satisfaction but also for proper placement. Sony UBP x700 For wireless features, the older UBP-X800 offers screen mirroring via Miracast while the newer UBP-X800M2 doesn’t.

When it comes to weight, the newer UBP-X800M2 model is a little bit lighter when compared to the older UBP-X800.
