Description

Much like the book-press method, a homemade or store-bought wooden flower press can give you fabulous results. (Plus, you can decorate a wooden press or customize it to match your style-BONUS!) Supplies: Pop them in a frame to create unique rustic artwork. They add colour to every spot in the home, as well as making for a beautiful gift.

A. Definitely look for a kit that comes with instructions and follow them . The easier kits tend to be the ones designed with children in mind, which some consumers also like for their elderly parents. This isn’t to say pressing flowers is difficult you just need to follow the user’s manual. We didn’t get great results with the microwave method. Our flowers became very fragile, and the petals shriveled up a bit and fell off more easily. Since you have to remove the parchment from the microwave before the flowers are completely dry, the flowers are also more easily damaged.

1. BestNest Nature Press

Naturally flatter flowers, like daisies, aster and chamomile are easiest to press. I also found filler flowers like statice looked beautiful when pressed while left on the stem.

It’s a comprehensive book about any and all things flower pressing. Featuring hundreds of photos it provides plenty of ideas for your next flower-pressing project and instructions so you can get started pressing flowers in no time. What Others Are SayingAlthough the flower had dropped it was still quite moist so a put it in another couple of times. The centre was the hardest to completely dry out because it’s so dense and I burnt the edges of the petals slightly. But I was still very impressed with the outcome. A rummage in the garden produced some smaller less dense flowers and they worked perfectly. Top Tips If you want to press flowers properly, it takes time. We definitely recommend the book method or using a proper wooden flower press. The grands and I were really happy with the results. We used the microwave pressed flowers immediately in bookmarks and cards. Whether you’re a beginner looking to learn more about flower pressing or a seasoned vet who is looking for inspiration and advanced topics, this book has some value for you.

While I appreciate all kinds of compositions, I have a soft spot for framing smaller dry flower projects because I feel like they really showcase beautiful details that go unnoticed in nature. This is the perfect kit to get if you feel the same way or know someone who does! Now, the fun begins; preparing your flowers for pressing. Remove any dirt and debris from each flower. Decide if you want to clip off leaves, stems, or stamens to only press flower blooms. Or would you create mini bouquets or dry individual flower petals? (I find it fun to try all these ways to see what you prefer.) I’m wanting to try some dried flower petals on wax letter seals next. I’ll let you know how it goes!
