It will start from 19 May 1940 when a War Office conference first considered the mission, to the culmination of the rescue itself from 26 May – 4 June. The three-day event has been blessed with perfect weather and large crowds–especially yesterday and today–with thousands of people descending on the ‘military village’ near the iconic Liver Building. In all upwards of 10,000 men on both sides were casualties on the first day of the invasion; at least 100 sailors and Royal Marines with no known grave are honoured on Portsmouth Naval Memorial alone. Three days of Battle of the Atlantic commemorations have ended in Liverpool with organisers and public equally delighted by the maritime spectacle.

Create a family tree for the pair that may be exhibited for everyone to see. Begin with paper and a poster board, choose a broken branch of oak as the foundation (or trunk) of the tree, then add the names of the couple’s parents as a beginning point. From there, continue extending upwards and outwards by adding all relatives and their dates of birth and death (if appropriate). There is so much here for us to take pride in tonight. But we will all want to see more in the year and years ahead. What makes the evacuation of Dunkirk a unique, heroic feat is the amount of lives that were saved during those nine frantic days. Members of the Armed Forces will lead veterans and guests in commemorations to pay respects to those who died during the Normandy Landings, as well as veterans of the campaign who are no longer with us.
