A new magnetic charger means the brush can be recharged in as little as 3 hours, rather than the more typical 12. There are of course many similarities between these two brushes and both have some design and features I have not touched upon yet, but I believe are worth noting. It will last on average 7 days. That is based on 14 two minute cleans or approximately 28 minutes of brushing time. It is important to try and protect the brush head a little from damage as these are what do the cleaning and damaged bristles can actually cause more damage than you think. It does too come with a premium travel case, similar to that of the Genius X, which allows the brush to be charged whilst inside. However, like the X, this requires a separate proprietary power adapter. The same toothbrush, they may well be labelled with or without the ‘1’ in the name. The ‘1’ relates to a bit of a rebranding exercise undertaken by Oral-B.Another slight difference is the 9000’s lovely travel case has a clip built into the lid that holds a smartphone, for using the app when travelling. No brush would be complete without a brush head and with the Pro 650 we have on test here is a CrossAction head. A more recent addition to the Oral-B range this head has a series of angled bristles which are designed to effectively remove plaque but also ensure they clean deep between the teeth and provide a good coverage over teeth surfaces.

The Smart 6 comes with1 x CrossAction, 1 x Pro White/3D White and 1 x Sensitive brush head, but the Genius 9000 comes with one additional brush head, that is the FlossAction head. I don’t have the figures of the number of oscillations and pulsations on the older Pro 5000 available to give confirmation of the power difference. And add to this, there have been various iterations of the 5000 over the years, so it would be important to find out the exact one to say 100%. The Smart 6 travel case is better than some of the cheaper models. It is a white colour and is fairly robust.

Returning your item

The 600 comes in light Blue or Pink whilst the Pro 2 2000 comes in a dark Blue or Pink. Both have gloss white plastic bodies. Both do a job and give a home to brush heads, but the 9000 is a neater and more desirable solution.

So, both models come with a place to store brush heads, but the compartment with the 9000 is better than the stand offered with the Smart 6. Like other Oral B toothbrush, you also get three years guarantee, 2 years at the time of buying and one more year when you register it online. The great number of choices you have within the Oral-B range can make it really quite difficult to decide which toothbrush is right for you.You are likely going to get the best value from the Pro 1 680/Pro 1 750 variants, because they include a travel case. But, prices do vary, so this logic may not always apply.
