The PalletSaw-W is THE band saw for every pallet company and all sorts of pallets. With this pallet shredder machine you either dismantle the pallet completely or replace its broken parts in an efficient way.

Step 3: Do not use a crowbar to try to twist the boards apart. You will make marks on them, and some will splinter. Instead, put the pallet on a flat surface like a floor, and place a piece of wood under the board, just next to the stringer you want to push off. Then with another piece of wood, you tap a few times on the stringer from above, and it will come off easily, without breaking the stringer or the boards it was attached to. There will be no nails in the stringers and only short nails on the boards. You can remove them easily with a small hammer and a prybar. As the timber is of better quality it’s nicer to work with and also makes the job of breaking the pallet down a fair bit easier. So have a go with the materials you have to hand (because they are free!) and see how you go, you can always tweak the design once you’ve field tested it. My first pallet breaker was suitable for pallets with 47mm (2″) bearers but then I got some pallets that had 100mm (4″) wide cross planks, so I made another one with a wider jaw.

No matter what you do, take care when working with pallets. Don’t forget that the nails are in place if you leave them – they could cause significant damage to your tools – and to YOU. ALWAYS wear protective gear, especially goggles or safety glasses when working with pallets. This method is probably the one to go for when dealing with lower quality, cheaper pallets as levering and beating these often splits the slats rendering them useless.

Many DIY jobs and projects in the home involve timber and if you are working to a budget a great source of, in many cases, free timber is the common pallet, but to use the timber you first have to dismantle the pallet. Unfortunately this is not a nice job and if you have loads of slats to denail, one that can take quite a while.

Stand pallet upright and screw it to another pallet laying on the floor at 90° so that its solid and supportedFor any slats that cross each other, these may still be joined together. In this case use a prying bar or sturdy flat edge screwdriver to prise them apart Breaking a pallet down using a reciprocating saw is one of the better techniques and if done with care, pretty much guarantees no damage to any slats. For 50-75 pallet per hour you can remove broken parts or you can complete dismantle 20-40 pallets per hour With the use of a robot we achieved tailor-made solutions for dismantling pallets. The robot saws the broken board or pallet foot.

With the pry bars positioned, gently push them outwards and start levering the slat up taking your time as you go Combine the pallet disassembly line with an automatic nail or pallet repair line or with a pallet sorting line. When combined with a sorting line, one employee sorts the pallets and the robot dismantles. Even complete pallet stripping is possible when working with a robot. Products for pallet dismantling With all possible slats removed it’s now time to remove the slats that we couldn’t previously. To do this, find a further 2 lengths of 3×2 roughly 2 feet in length. Place these either side of a slat roughly 3 inches away. Position your levering timbers either side of each slat and move them outwards until they touch your new fulcrum timbers then simply move your levering timbers outwards as you did in the steps above. Repeat for any further slats that need removing Next, find 2 lengths of either 3×2 or 4×2 inch timbers that are roughly 3 feet long each. These are going to be used as levering barsHere follows some techniques that we have found the best for breaking down pallets into their individual slats. How to break down a pallet without tools
