For most purposes, Teak Oil can be treated exactly the same as Danish Oil, except that the final finish is a high gloss. Apply at least two thin coats of Teak Oil. The more coats you use, the better the final gloss will be. Briwax Teak Oil is often used on outdoor furniture. Yes, you can use Briwax Danish Oil on your kitchen bench top, table tops, floors, window sills and doors (interior & exterior) as long as you follow our instructions. See the section on Protecting a floor with Danish Oil for more information on how to create a strong, waterproof finish with Danish Oil.

Danish Oil gives a matt finish, whereas Teak Oil is glossier. Apply Briwax Oils with a cloth (or use a brush or sponge for larger areas, and wipe over with a cloth to remove any brush marks). Allow overnight to dry, and sand between coats with fine (240 grit) sandpaper or 0000 grade steel wool in the direction of the grain. Briwax Oils penetrate, feed, and harden the fibres of bare wood, giving a durable water-resistant surface not prone to chipping or flaking. Use them on kitchen cupboards, bench tops, tables, chairs, floors, windows and doors, or any other wooden surface. No, Briwax Danish Oil does not come in colours, but you can tint it with Briwax Spirit-based Wood Dye. The resultant coloured oil does not have a long shelf life, and so it should be mixed and used within a few days. The disadvantage of mixing the Wood Dyes with Oil is that you are committed to a specific colour. If you apply the Wood Dye to your wood first, you can add more or different colours until you are happy with the colour, and then seal the colour with Oil afterwards. If you apply tinted Danish Oil and don't like the finished colour, you will need to sand the finish off before you can re-colour the timber. Wax is not waterproof, and if spills are allowed to stay on waxed surfaces they can cause white spotting or watermarks. To remove these, just apply another coat of wax to the affected area. Applying new wax will remove the old wax and replace it with a new coat, which should remove the watermarks. However, if you allow the surface to remain wet for a long time, the watermark will get into the wood, and applying more wax won't solve this.

In hot weather, Briwax Original can go liquid. It's harder to apply the wax when it's like this, and it doesn't go as far. Put the tin in the fridge for a while, or in the freezer for 5-10 minutes, and the wax will harden again. It's a lot easier to create a good finish when the wax is firm, particularly with the darker colours. Danish Oil gives a flat natural look to the timber. If you apply two further coats of Briwax Teak Oil over the first coat of Danish Oil, this will give you a gloss finish. Two thin coats are sufficient for most purposes on bare wood, but for kitchen worktops, floors, external doors and tables use four coats, which if applied carefully will give a water-resistant finish, even for hot cups of coffee! A coat of Briwax original wax over the top will give the Danish Oil a satin sheen, if you wish. Of course it depends on where it is used, but in general, if you cannot get a shine with a soft buffing, it is time to re-apply. In high traffic areas this can be as often as every few months. In vertical applications and low traffic areas Briwax will last for years. Note: Briwax does not contain UV inhibitors so direct sunlight will cause it to fade. Briwax is not an exterior product for this reason. For more detailed information, see How to revive faded outdoor furniture Special notes for some applications There are many copies of Teak Oil, and many alternative oil-based finishes including the traditional linseed and tung oil based products. However, most of these products are 'wet' oils – they never harden completely. This can leave them prone to collecting dirt. Briwax Teak Oil is a hardening oil. Once dry, it is durable and waterproof. You can mix the spirit-based dyes to achieve almost any colour. Even if you've already applied some dye, you can apply another colour and they will mix together. Briwax spirit-based dyes are based on methylated spirits, so you can lighten the colour by adding methylated spirits. Because they are a dye, not a stain, Briwax Spirit-based dyes don't create ‘tide-marks’ when they dry. You can wipe over the existing dyed area with more dye, and you won't be able to see the join.

Shelf-life/Storage A very long time if stored in original container tightly sealed in a cool dry place. For table and bench tops, use three or four coats of Danish Oil. If the surface is well sanded and carefully finished, we've found that Danish Oil is resistant even to hot water. Many of our clients have finished commercial bar tops with Danish Oil. However, we wouldn't suggest using Danish Oil where the surface is likely to be used for cutting; sharp knives can cut through the surface into the wood, which will allow water to get into the wood at a later stage and damage the finish.

For wooden floors new and old, Briwax Danish Oil is a far better finish than polyurethane. Instead of forming a synthetic coating over the top of the

Danish Oil goes a lot further than most finishes. As a guide, we find that a 5 litre tin of Danish Oil is enough for four coats on about 30 square metres of flooring. The first coat uses around half of the oil, and the subsequent coats are much thinner, because the wood has been sealed by the first coat. Teak Oil was formulated for use on Teak, which is notoriously hard to finish well. Although there is very little Teak in New Zealand, there is a great deal of a similar wood – Rimu. Teak Oil also gives a great result on other common woods such as Kwila and Kauri. Known as "The World's Premier Finishing Wax". Briwax is a blend of beeswax and carnauba wax, two of the finest waxes known to man. Briwax is designed to protect raw wood and can be applied to virtually any existing finish. Use Briwax on all woods, untreated leather, marble, concrete, metal and painted surfaces. To ensure desired results always test on inconspicuous area first. Tinted waxes can be lightened or removed with the clear wax. 16 oz. Whether the floor is new or old, make sure the surface is clean and sanded smooth. The better finish you start with, the better the final result will be.For a guide and comparison of our wax polishes, have a read of our blog, Wax Polishes, Which Should I Use? Once you're happy with the colour, protect it with one or two coats of Briwax Danish Oil or Briwax Teak Oil. Danish Oil has a matt/satin finish, and Teak Oil gives a gloss finish. Sand between coats with very fine sandpaper or 0000 steel wool. See the section on finishing floors with Danish Oil above for more details. A professional appearance, improved shine and more durable finish can be obtained by sealing the wood. To achieve this, brush along the grain with Shellac Sanding Sealer before using Briwax Original wax polish. Unlike most other wood finishes, you can restore the finish at any stage in its life by wiping down with mineral turpentine, and applying another coat of oil. Product Application: pply to the surface with a soft lint free cloth or 0000 Steel Wool working with the grain. Once dry, buff with lint free cotton cloth to achieve the desired finish
