About this deal

Laurent-Perrier, renowned for its distinctive style, a mix of freshness, finesse, and elegance was among the first houses to introduce stainless steel tanks for fermentation and storage of reserve wines. The Grand Siècle fermentation room holds fourteen, 110-hectolitre tanks. Laurent-Perrier has been developing Grand Siècle since 1959, but 2019 was the first year that the iteration number was marked on the bottle. Going well beyond rare vintages, Grand Siècle recreates the perfect year with each new iteration. Laurent-Perrier has, since 1959, launched 24 iterations of Grand Siècle, which perpetuates this wine’s unique style in Champagne each time. Powerful aroma of orange peel and something in the putty/chalk spectrum. It somehow manages to be both tight yet approachable, dense in terms of flavour concentration yet filigree in terms of texture. As usual, it’s so Chardonnay! Overriding citrus character and quite amazingly long, a mouthful tingling on the palate for minutes not seconds. Enormous finesse. Massive pleasure. This would make the most luxurious aperitif. Michel Fauconnet, having welcomed the new chef de cave in January 2023, must be especially proud of this wine.”

woven and sewn jute material that give their free-standing ability, and as a result, many customers use it for This iteration of Grand Siècle leans heavily on the Chardonnay side with its 58% proportion. Two great vintages, 2012 and 2008, compose a lion’s share of the blend with 2007 supporting. The overall impression is one of ripe and exuberant fruitiness. Upon release this February 2022 disgorgement shows rather open and expressive already in all its honey and floral tones. Taking into account the varietal proportion, Pinot Noir’s presence can be felt strongly on both the nose and palate. There is ample power and body to the richly textured palate, the 2012 vintage seems to be driving the wine at the moment. Lots of concentration here, which no doubt will reward cellaring.” Laurent-Perrier has declared just 29 vintages between 1950 and 2008, while 45 have been declared within the Champagne region. All same day deliveries are made in TFB "Jute Bags" a 100% recyclable material highly durable, made with tightlyun été champenois avec des températures basses et un ensoleillement faible pour un millésime exceptionnel. Les vins sont complexes avec une belle structure avec des Chardonnays de grande qualité et des Pinots Noirs révélant une richesse aromatique exceptionnelle. Pereyre further explains the philosophy of this wine. “Through the blend the conviction of my grandfather is that you can recreate this perfect year with not any blends, but a very specific blend of three exceptional vintages which are complementary. His idea of recreating the year has translated into a wine which has gained in complexity through time a very aromatic complexity, due to the aging, due to the choice of the Grand Cru selected, of the three exceptional vintages. Magnum “On first approach you have that attractive hint of smokiness, a result of the winemaking process where “no oxygen” produces this character, then you start to see bundles of ripe yellow fruits and hints of gooseberry. Has a lightness on the palate, really delicate and some saltiness to the yellow plums, apples and pears. The salinity and minerality giving the champagne a really light and fresh character. The lees ageing has really filled the mid-palate, giving an almost velvety texture to the champagne. Very fine with a hint of spiciness and a fresh mineral finish.“ When we have a vertical tasting of Grand Siècle through all the iterations, we do not see a difference in evolution of color. You have it aromatically, but not in color, which means that oxidation has not entered into the older iterations. It is protected and it has evolved into a different kind of texture, but all the time you really keep this freshness.”

Grand Siècle From Champagne Laurent-Perrier - A Singular Grand Siècle From Champagne Laurent-Perrier - A Singular

The «GrandSiècle» (Great Century) is the name given to one of the most prosperous periods (17th century) in the history of France known for the capacity of man, through his works, to create what nature cannot. Louis XIVth, known as the «Sun King», by creating the «Château de Versailles» and its gardens, was the architect of this model of harmony, balance and perfection. So he said, ‘in Champagne, we are already good at blending, blending different parcels together, different Grand Cru, but nobody has tried different vintages, exceptional vintages.’ So that’s what we went for.” a warm spring, the effects of which were mitigated by a mixed summer, revealing straightforward wines with a beautiful freshness that will keep over time, with Chardonnays having complex aromas of white and citrus fruits and Pinots Noirs with aromas of yellow fruits. In October 1948, aged 28, Bernard de Nonancourt was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive of Laurent-Perrier. He was one of the rare owners of a Champagne House to have done all the jobs of his future employees after being a vines labourer, cellar and office worker and a sales representative. Bernard de Nonancourt injected a dynamic momentum into the business. Keen on innovation, strongly attached to champagne traditions and to quality, he forged the commercial culture of Laurent-Perrier and created a renowned brand with a range of unique champagnes. He became President of Laurent-Perrier at the age of 28, in 1948 and held that role for 62 years until he passed away in 2010. The first bottle was off the charts. Utterly seamless and delivering so much youthful and balanced energy. For a 60 year old wine this was unbelievably drinkable.”Vintage in Champagne is usually synonymous with excellence for Prestige Cuvées. Contrarily, Laurent‑Perrier believes that only the art of assemblage can offer what nature can never provide, that is, the perfect year.

My expectations were high for this blend that comes with a majority of 2008. As high a proportion as 65%, in fact. It gets complimented by 25% of the great Chardonnay year 2007 and a dash of the voluptuous 2006. Crisp Chardonnay notes dominate the pure and youthful nose of lime, peach and chalk, which comes with stylish restraint and delicate toasty layers. The combination of predominance a cool year and high proportion of Chardonnay (60%, the highest share ever!), bring such finesse and tension to this Iteration, that I am immediately taking it amongst my all time favourites. The mousse is impressively creamy yet invigorating and the style seemingly long-ageing and tight. If it is this fine in 75cl bottles, I cannot wait to taste its grandeur in magnums!” Grand Siècle, like Versailles, is the result of harnessing the elements of nature to produce a prestige cuvée like no other. Iteration No. 25 is a truly remarkable champagne, the perfect reflection of my grandfather’s vision, and his legacy to recreate the perfect year.”The 25th iteration of Laurent-Perrier’s de luxe cuvée, always a blend of different vintages in their quest to make the perfect champagne. Deep gold with the tiniest bead. Very pungently aromatic and with a texture as smooth as silk. Utterly luxurious. Slides over the palate with an undertow of surprisingly ripe Chardonnay. I’d drink this with a sophisticated fish dish, perhaps with a rich sauce. I love the gentlest of explosions on the palate. Surely this has a lower-than-average pressure? Very long. But it is not recommended for those who like their champagne on the austere side. This is to be launched in late 2021 but it tastes as though it was already gorgeous in 2020.” Almost too fresh! Hilariously so. Saline, grippy, tense. Of all the older bottles this carried the hallmarks of its younger siblings the most. A delightful caramel note is the only hint that this is over 30 years old.” For Laurent Perrier, the largest export markets for Grand Siècle are Japan, the United States and then the United Kingdom. Marketing director Edouard Cossy replied in this interview that Italy has also become an important market for this wine. When I mentioned to Pereyre that I often travel to Italy, she recommended that I pair Grand Siècle with white truffles on my next visit to Piedmont. That sounds great, Lucie - I will! The first release of Grand Siècle was a blend of wine from the 1952, 1953 and 1955 vintages, and the latest, just released in the past few months, is a blend of the 2006, 2007, and 2008 vintages. As the cuvée can not be labeled a vintage Champagne, as there is fruit from more than one year, the company identifies these wines according to a term known as iteration. I must admit I was not familiar with this word, so I looked up the dictionary definition which is “the repetition of a process.” This each new release of Grand Siècle bears an iteration number; this newest release is Iteration #25. The Grand Siècle concept was born in 1953 by Laurent-Perrier’s charismatic owner Bernard de Nonancourt who wanted to produce the ‘perfect vintage champagne’, knowing a single year was unlikely to provide that, he blended three great vintages, allowing the creation of his ‘perfect vintage’. The Iteration series is blended from grapes sourced from 11 of the 17 Grand Cru villages in Champagne.
